Just got my 4.8...how to Ipod

http://xoutpost.com/gallery/files/7/6...rld_488892.jpg

I just got the 4.8 and drove it home last night. I am trying to figure out the best way to integrate my Ipod. I have a CD changer, sirius and BMW assist.

What are my choices?

Thanks in advance for your help. I have tried to educate myself through this forum, but I do not have a really clear picture.

Yeah, I'm interested too - have had my X5 since August....didn't get the Ipod Integration kit or Navigation & don't want to have to mess around with radio stations to listen to my Ipod. But flipping through radio stations and changing cd's is a drag. PS - was able to order carbon black on my '06. Will post pics in the next few days...

The CD Changer is replaced for the iPod interface. Here's the kit you need:

DICE iPod Integration Kit for BMW
http://www.europeanautosource.com/pr...roducts_id=268

The DICE will allow for control of your iPod via the steering wheel or radio controls, text display and charging of your iPod through a single dock connector.

Everything needed for a complete install is included with the kit. Let me know if you have any further questions!

Thanks Tom...

Is there any way to keep the factory CD changer and use an Ipod? Perhaps the Aux input only?

Yes, that is exactly what I have. I am guessing that your car is new enough that it has the Aux-ready radio and wiring. If that is the case, then a $35 Aux input adapter will give you what you need.

The intention of the iPod is to replace the CD Changer, once it's integrated - the CD Changer is old news. The DICE allows your entire music library (or anyone else's) to travel along with you and allowing steering wheel/radio control and full text display on the radio or NAV screen.

If you're unsure, try the AUX first - I'm positive you'll upgrade to the DICE later. ;)

you should give me the car and it will solve all your problems

atillathetom 10-05-2006 01:33 PM

You already have one...

:beerchug:

not for long

:(

atillathetom 10-05-2006 01:36 PM

you should....

reconsider that.

I totally agree with this statement - once you get the iPod in there, why would you want to use the CD changer?? Anything you have on CD can go on the Pod. I have not had a single CD in my car since installing. And if I need to play one, I still have the one in the dash.

I have a damn tape...

That is just about the only disappointment I have with the car. My M3 had a CD behind the NAV and this has a Tape...BOOOOO

Tom

I have tape behind my NAV screen also on my M3, I wouldn't use a CD if it was there anyway, I'm hooked on the DICE.

I opted to keep the changer just so I can play CD's. If you have navi and the Dice in your X then you won't even have cd as an option.

...BUT on the other hand if you have navi and want to keep the changer, do as i did and add a video module as well as the Valor iLink from Tom @ EAS.

I just did this mod along with a dvd player that accepts memory sticks and added a rev cam as well. Everything installed fine, just trying to figure out how to set up my ipod to be used with the Valor baffles me. But in theory, I should be able to listen to my music look at photos and watch movies that are stored on my ipod all from a remote and the navi screen w/o touching the ipod itself. This Valor is advertised to do all this w/o even being a video ipod. Hopefully I can verify this as soon as it is set up corectly.

I suppose if this Valor doesn't work out I can replace the Valor with the Dice and still use my DVD player as a cd player if I needed to play a CD. Just thinking out loud. Hmm.. maybe I should do that and replace the dvd player with a dvd changer so i can have cd's and dvd movies in the same player! too many options

Let me know what questions you have on the Valor unit by email - I'll be happy to assist.
