major DICE error?!

Guys, you gotta help me because I am freaking out...

I bought the DICE module from densionusa.com last week, and I installed the DICE module last Thursday using the BSW instructions on this thread. The instructions were great and the installation went off without a hitch.

Today I got in my car, the DICE would not work. When I pushed the "mode" button, it simply said "No Disk." So I turned off my car, and turned it back on... still nothing. I also noticed that the DICE module was not charging the iPod.

Second, when I got out of my car, I pushed the "lock" button in my key, and the alarm did not sound to indicate that the doors locked. The doors did lock, but the car did not beep. It almost seems like the car thinks a door is ajar... I checked all the doors and they are all closed.

This is very disturbing to me... These problems seem to be related, as neither of them appeared before today.

Does anyone know what is wrong? Thank you in advance...

It sounds like you need to initialize your DICE module again. This is ussually the main issue with these units as they are very sensitive to how they are hooked up.

1. Disconnect negative battery terminal.
2. Disconnect DICE (either the module itself, or the CD changer connections).
3. Wait 30 minutes.
4. Reconnect DICE.
5. Reconnect battery terminal.

OR:
1. Disconnect both battery terminals.
2. Touch both leads together. (*WARNING* REMOVE THE LEADS FROM THE BATTERY ITSELF FIRST BEFORE EXECUTING THIS STEP!)
3. Disconnect DICE (either the module itself, or the CD changer connections).
4. Wait 5 minutes.
5. Reconnect DICE.
6. Reconnect battery terminal

Would the DICE module affect my car's alarm system?

It shouldn't. What Generation iPod and iPod firmware are you using?

larkinjc 10-17-2006 02:30 PM

It's a 5th Generation iPod. It says the software version is 1.2... how do I check the firmware?

v1.2 is the iPod's firmware - you're compatible with the DICE system. Has anything been changed or modified since installation of the DICE?

There are a few differences... let me know if these seem important.

1) I am using a different iPod than the iPod I used when I installed the DICE

2) This iPod worked fine yesterday, but I updated this iPod last night to version 1.2. It would not work today.

Those are the only differences I can think of.

Also, the DICE is not charging the iPod. This seems important... like something is disconnected. However, I checked the connections, and everything appears to be plugged in properly.

The iPod is not is not the problem, its the DICE module either not getting power or it is not initialized correctly. Here's a few things you can try:

1. Check the inline fuse on the Trunk Wiring harness to see if it has blown.
2. Remove the battery cables (tough to do in the X5) or simply remove the radio fuses in the glovebox fuse panel for about 3-5 minutes.
3. Check the module itself to see if it possibly has shorted out. If so, there will be a burnt smell present.

Feel free to contact me with any specific questions on the DICE kit, we're happy to assist.

Wow. I am beginning to regret this purchase...

What could I have done improperly to have caused these problems to occur?
