bm53 radio in a range rover?
 

hey all,

i've done the popular bmw navi retrofit in my 740 e38 and i noticed my friends range rover(2004 4.4) has for the most part the same system, he wants xm/sirius radio and a mk IV computer so i was curious if it would be as simple as me ordering a bm53 radio and mkIV computer and installing them in place of what i would imagine is a c43 radio and mkIII computer.
any suggestions?

I theory, as far as I know, this would work.

The only down side is that by installing a MK IV he would lose the off road Navigation facility that you get with the Range Rover version of the Nav Software, as this is the equivelent of V17.1 it won't work on the Mk IV.

fortunately for him the main thing he's concerned about is the bm53 radio, just so he can get the sirius radio, and later an dice ipod connector will be in need. it's got the same cd changer as the x5 but in the glove box. will the dice just plug-in in place of the cd changer?

last thing i've got to do is to find some nice blow-up diagrams of the range rover so i can find where the radio tuner is located.

oh also i will be needing a roundpin to bm53 flat pin adapter won't i?

The radio tuner is located on the left side of the lugage compartment.

The CD Changer is VERY difficult to remove. As all Range Rovers had them fitted it was not available as a retro fit. To remove the CD Changer you have to take out the dash! It's about a 3-4 hour job. In order to fit a DICE (or better still an Intravee www.Intravention.co.uk) you MUST disable or remove the CD Changer, fortunatally there is a fuse which is dedicated to it, so you can just pull the fuse and then connect up to the radio quad lock connector.

In the UK 2003 RR already has the BM54 (Europe) so I'd guess in a 2004 US Range Rover the BM53 is already installed. The only way to be sure would be to have a look!

Just pulling the fuse should be enough. We just completed an install with BMW OEM Sirius in a 2003 Range Rover with a special harness we offer that makes everything Plug and Play.

He'll have a BM53 tuner already installed if he's MY2003 or later.
