Service Engine Soon light keeps coming on

My "service engine soon" light came on 3 times in the 5 months I have owned my X3. It has now been with the dealer for 1 month as they continue to "diagnose" the problem. Anybody else have a similar issue?

what are the codes that are triggering the SES light to come on?

Describe symptoms.

Any noticeable difference when the SES light is on?

Thanks for the replies.

No noticeable difference. No idea what codes are. It has been at the dealer for a month. They originally said it was related to the fuel pump/injection. Is this a typical problem with 2006 X3s?

Havn't heard anything on 06's. My 04' would lose power at 2800 rpm, and that would trigger the light. Resetting the DME cured it though...

Thanks!

same problem here

I have 06 4.4, and ses came on while I was still running on dealer filled tank. I came back to Shelly BMW, and they accused me not closing fuel cap correctly. They did reset the light, and it was off for a while. at about 700 miles, same thing happened. At 1500 miles, SES came on again. This time this dealer in Ontario kept my car for about 2 days, and they finally found problem. They told me that there is charcoal filter, and sensor behind it. They are not supposed to be soaked with fuel, but mine was. They replaced sensor & charcoal filter. I don't know exact part that was replaced. Sorry. However, this solved problem, and I haven't seen SES. :)

So we need to look for Sensor behind Charcoal Filter...it's pity that we haven't got the P/N...:(
