upgrade to DSP
 

Hey everyone,

I was just wondering what exactly it takes to upgrade from the normal soundsystem to the DSP. I have purchased a dsp amplifier, bmw oem subwoofer, and mounting brackets. How can I tell if my car was prewired for dsp? If it wasnt, what kind of cost am I looking at to wire it properly? Right now I have the business cd/radio without the dsp button, but I will be getting the 16:9 screen soon.

Honestly, I don't see the need. You can get a much better sound with aftermarket pieces.

The DSP system is generally made up of three components: the DSP amp, the DSP controller, and the speakers (including the sub box upgrade). If you are installing the nav or TV system with screen, then you will not have to worry about the DSP amp controller, since that function is built into the nav computer and TV module. All you would really need to do is install the DSP amp and then decide if you want to upgrade to the factory sub box or install an aftermarket sub.

Your car is not pre-wired for DSP, but it is not that hard to adapt the existing wiring. The DSP amp has 3 plugs that are different from the two plugs on the standard amp. You can get the DSP plugs from a BMW dealer and then just splice them into your existing wiring with the help of the handy wiring diagram software.

I agree - add your own sub and upgrade the speakers :thumbup:

I would consider that, but I got the dsp amp and subs for 400 even. I'm still looking to upgrade the speakers though, any recommendations?

Depends on how deep you want to go - BSW may have a speaker package for you or JL for their X5-specific stealthbox.

DSP is overpriced & the subs suck

where can you get the handy wiring diagram software??

I had DSP in my X it should stand for Don't Spend the Popcorn, I ripped it out and put all aftermarket equip in...my .02
