06 4.8 oem cd changer?...

It takes couple minutes for a mp3 cd to load (cd check) and start play. Normal? Thanks guys.

I am about to buy one myself. Does it always do it. Which one do you have?

It's the factory installed one. It plays mp3s just fine but "check cd" takes a while.

If the CD Magazine is removed, yes. - this is normal. Otherwise, power is being cut to the CD Changer.

I never had that problem. what is the part number. The early Units are not as good as the newer CD changers with MP3

Here is the newer one from bimmernav website

Check the ID3 info of the MP3 files. If you have version 2 tags that include things like Album art or lyrics than this will slow down the CD Changer significantly. Ideally strip off all but the Track, Artist and Album ID3 V1 tags.

My X5 is june '06 buit. Will this changer work better than what I have in mine?

"CD check" only occurs when you first insert the CD cartridge. It lasts for about 30-40 seconds. If you don't remove the cartridge, when you return to the vehicle the changer is available instantly.

The BMW changer is completely compatible with ID3 Version 2 tags and I've not ran into any issues with the tracks embedded with album art.
