BMW Standard Amplifier Question
 

Hey everyone, I bought a Standard BMW Alpine Amplifier on Ebay and I am unable to locate the plug for it in my X5.I looked in the rear where the changer is and there is no plug which fits the Amp.I called my local dealer here in Sydney Australia and they have no idea either.I thought I might need another harness which plugs in the amp and then into one of the plugs in the rear. There are a few spare plugs in the rear, but non of them fit the amp.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have removed the plastic trim on the left underneath the cargo floor but I still can't seem to find the plug there.

Did you buy the amp to replace an existing amp or to upgrade your car? If you bought it to upgrade the car, then you will probably have to do some additional wiring, as the cars are specifically wired for the type of amps (or no amp), and there are no extra plugs for any kind of upgrade.

I have some extra amplifier plugs on my X5........I think it's for the DSP as mine is non DSP. Found them when looking for wiring for my sub woofer amp and I still dont know what's their function.......

Yeah I have those plugs as well but non of them fit the amp.

If I need to do additional wiring can you tell me what to wire to where.

If your car has the standard stereo with no amp, then you will need to make a number of changes. First, all of the speaker wires run directly to the radio. (If you have navigation, the radio is in the trunk; otherwise, it is in the dash). So, you will have to reroute the radio's audio signal output wires from the dash to the trunk. Also, you will have to extend all of the speaker wiring from the dash to the trunk as well.

Next, the speaker configurations are totally different. The standard stereo has 3 pairs of speakers-- tweeters and woofers in the front doors, and woofers in the back doors. The front speakers have a passive crossover in the doors. The Active HiFi amp has active crossovers built into the amp, plus that system has more speakers-- it adds midrange speakers to the front doors and tweeters to the rear doors. So, ideally, you would want to add the missing speakers and re-wire the front door speakers so that the wiring runs directly to the amp instead of passing through the crossover.

Finally, you would need to get the two plugs meant for the HiFi amp and connect all of the rerouted wires to the new plugs. There is a link above on this page called "online WDS." That is the BMW wiring diagram software, and your key resource for figuring this change out.
