Need Clarification Regarding HD Radio

Hi:

I have the following questions regarding BSW HD Radio for E53

[1] I have been reading several postings and still not sure that if I buy
the Dice HD Radio from BSW for my E53 with standard (no upgrade,
no DSP) sound system, do I need to run extra wires from the back
of the car to the stereo / radio console in the front? I assume the
HD unit must be installed in the back of the car where the CD changes
is supposed to be.

[2] Where is the HD radio antenna located?

[3] How is the sound quality. From what I read, some owners complained
that the radio is picking up electrical noises.

BTW I have 2006 E53.

Thanks,
Jim

Jim, welcome to X5world. I'll try to answer your questions the best that I can.

When installing the HD Radio kit, you will be running a cable to the rear of the vehicle, where the CD changer controls are. This will allow you to mount the module in the front of the vehicle, as the DICE iPod cable is only about 4 feet long. If you are purchasing it for only HD radio,a nd do not have an iPod - you most definitely can simply leave the module in the back of the vehicle.

You can mount the HD Radio antenna anywhere you would like. I don't have the information home with me at the moment, but I'll check our install guide tomorrow to see where the recommended placement in an X5 is. We haven't had many/any noise complaints of the reception as of yet, although I'm sure that there are always things that occur that nobody tells us about.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to send me a PM, email, or even give us a call at the office.

The HD DICE is emulating a CD Changer, with a wide array of other features included such as integrated AUX, text display and iPod integration.

The kit comes complete with HD DICE module, trunk harness and the micro HD antenna. The antenna is typically placed on the windshield for your HD broadcasts, a complete listing can be found at www.hdradio.com.

The HD DICE will allow you to receive High Definition radio broadcasts with your stock BMW system. Expect CD quality from your HDFM stations and FM quality with your HDAM stations. There is no programming fees with HD Radio and the sound is simply awesome - much better than Sirius or XM.

Feel free to contact me directly with any questions on the system you may have, we are more than happy to assist.
