the three pin connector for Cd-changer (power and I-bus) is there regardless of what kind DSP it is...

what about the 6-pin connector that is part of the car's harness? would it be in a car equipped with 100% digital DSP?

If the answer is - no, then the presense of the 6-pin connector could tell if the CD-changer used the analog connection and the absence of thereof would tell us the CD-changer used digital connection

If the answer is - yes, then we are back to what Tom had suggested in the first place.

Right?

Right?

6 pin = "analog"
Round Cable (digital coax) = "Digital"

my concern is that the car possibly was equipped with a changer in the past (i suspect as the wireharness look stretched and not neatly wrapped up in the boot) and was possibly removed at one point along with any cables attached e.g. coaxial...

You are perfectly safe, if it is indeed Digital DSP - you will not have any audio.
