Differences between Dietz 126x VSM modules
 

Hello all.

Can someone tell me the difference between all those Dietz 126x TV modules? Are they the same hardware and firmware, and different cabling, or does the module itself differ?

If the difference is only in the cabling, it wouldn't matter to me if for example it's the correct 1266 module for our X3, as that cable seems to connect to the cd-changer in the middle console, and I don't have that connection there. I'd need to redo the cabling myself anyway.

The EAS VSM special module looks nicer than the Dietz ones, but Tom is selling them in a price that translates to me into more than 300 euros (and will come from USA to Europe, which might mean additional taxes), whereas I can see Dietz modules in German shops at way below 300 euros, and even cheaper for second hand modules. But it would be easier to search for any 126x, than the specific 1266.


So, does anyone know what goes in the Dietz multi-pin connector (not the navi blue connector)? I'm assuming the following:
- Audio L+R out, coming directly from the Audio L+R RCA connectors, and going to either the radio, cd-changer or tape audio in, depending on the car.
- Break pedal ground, to disable the module when on moving.

What else?

The NAV system is the same, the layout is different. The X3 will call for the 1266 kit which requires the proper cabling to get the job done right.

But is the module the same or not? And what exactly goes in the cabling?

From the photo, it seems to be:
- an cd-changer enabler ibus module (the small black box with a red,black and yellow cable)
- a big pink cable to connect to the manual break.
- a big grey cable to connect - I assume - to the cd-changer audio in connector on the middle console (which, again, I don't have)

If I don't care about sound (mainly because I don't have the right connector, and I have sound through aux anyway), and I manually ground the break switch, would a 1260 give me video or not?


PS: I've tried to get my employee to pay me the VSM under a "in-car mobile communication" project, but the project was denied. The car is leased, so I can't pay myself almost €500 for a module for connecting the laptop to the main screen, and that's why I'm looking for cheaper alternatives. I'm sorry Tom :(

Cabling is audio/video, along with power and ibus, the connector uses your CD input leads for stereo audio. For a leased vehicle - the Dietz will be the way to go.
