Adding Sub and Amp to non DSP

Okay I wanted to add a sub and amp to my 05 X5 with no DSP, or Nav. I was reading the threads of people who have tapped into their DSP systems. I am planning to pick up a sub with a built in amp, yes i know that a seperate custom box would sound better. Would the best way to hook up my powered sub my getting the signals and on/off signal from the deck in the fromt dash, or is their somewhere in the cargo area were the stock sub would have gone that I can tap into?

I have just fitted an Audison Amp and Hertz sub to the back cargo area using the original Side panel as the sub-case. We tapped into the Rear Left speaker to get sound for the sub and it works perfectly. There is a 40Amp fuse in the rear near the Spare that you can tap into for power.

Thanks for the reply. Where did you tap into for the on/off signal for the amp?

I have the BMW IPOD system fitted but it had the wiring already at the back for the CD. We took the on/off signal for the amp from the cabling that ran to the back for the CD player (Blue Socket behind Left panel)

If I dont have a bmw ipod system were can i get the signal from? When you say Cd are you talking about the stock in dash cd player?

3 Attachment(s)
Okay looking at the compartment were the stock sub is supppose to be I found a harness that is wrapped in electrical tape with a blue connector. IS this the connector that would have went into the stock sub? If so can I just use these wires for my powered sub?

In the first picture you have the Blue wiring block. This is where we took the on/off single from. As far as I am aware this block is used for the multi-stack CD player and so for me was not needed any more.

All 3 pics are of the same cable. The rear right side were the stock sub goes. Would I be able to pull the power and the left and right signal from this harness as well?

Look on the rear ledt side and there should be another blue block. That is the on/off connection. Power is behind the spare.

Got it thanks. I will look when I get home. Can I get the left and right signal from either of the two blocks? I rather get everything from one block (right side) if possible since thats were the powered sub is going.

Hello, I am working on installing a sub in my X5 also. Did you find out if you are able to get a signal from the right side of your trunk compartment? Are you going to pick up the signal before it goes into your stock amp or after? Do you have a non-dsp 10 speaker system? I have had a hard time finding out information about this upgrade. I would be grateful if you would share any information. Thanks Comanche

Hi Comanche. I havent done anything yet as my sub was on back order. It is suppose to be delivered this Friday. I will work on the installation this weekend if i dont have to leave town. I'll let you know how it goes.

I have put together quite alot of information that I collected from several forums and email sites in a PowerPoint on Non-DSP Stereo Subwoofer and Amplifier upgrades. I would be happy to email it to you thought it would be useful. The information has wiring diagrams and pin information as well as how different people have accomplished the upgrade. One thing I have noticed is that the speaker wire colors in the harness are not the same across the board. However, people in the articles say to use the pin number and the information will work. Let me know if you want me to email you, Comanche

Power Point? Doesn't that app rot your brain?

: )

Actually, I'd love to check it out: el_duderino at comcast dot net
