Missed that part, he will need Sirius instead:

Sirius Satellite Radio - e53 X5
http://www.europeanautosource.com/pr...roducts_id=274

Unfortunately, the XM Direct is not compatible with Navigation.

Tom (ar anyone else):

I have XM direct in my wife's 04 CiC. It was really easy to install (did it myself)

What are the differences to installing Sirius in my 06 X5 with the kit you have suggested?

Also, it says NOT compatible with Business Cassette vehicles. There IS a cassette player behind the Nav screen on my car. Make a difference?

Thanks a lot for the quick replies !

ED

PS. I have the same handle on the E46Fanatics board.

XM Direct is not compatible with Navigation, which is what you have. You can only go with AUX/handheld XM or Sirius.

Tom:
Slow down and please read my entire question.

I didn't ask if it's compatible.

We've already established that.

I asked what was the difference in INSTALLATION COMPARED to XMDirect.

Thanks again

Not sure what you mean - if XM is not compatible for the NAV the installation question is not valid for a comparison. As for Sirius, this would be a tiny bit more involved, but not a problem if you've installed XM before.

Full instructions are included with the kit as well as telephone/email support if needed. Here's a link to what's involved in the meantime: http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/s...avigation.html

Let me try this again..

A) I have successfully installed XM direct in a BMW
B) I have NOT attempted to install Sirius in a BMW
What is the DIFFERENCE in level of difficulty between A and B ?

Seems like a valid question regardless of the underlying technology..

But I could be wrong or maybe I'm still not being clear..

Thanks
ED

The link in my prior post should have explained the install process, the difficulty is about the same for both kits.

Tom:
I'd be interested in several of the products available from EAS, specifically backup camera and NAVTV, in addition to the Sirius radio we've already discussed. Do you know or have any authorized installers in NJ (or close by)..?

Many thanks

I installed XMDirect with the Blitzsafe adapter. Works great, installed antennae in the rear spoiler. All of it is easy and can be performed yourself. Look on these forums for the rear spoiler install instructions.

No one I can recommend personally, but any independent installer should have no problems with the installation.
