Install DSP into non-DSP X5?

Hi guys,

Sorry if there's a thread already started in the forum about this topic, but I couldn't find it.

I want to know, is it possible to install BMWs DSP Subwoofers into a non-DSP X5(04 facelifted, with nav)?

If it's possible, do I need to buy any spare part from BMW to make it happen? Is it an expensive process to make it happen? And do I need to go to the dealers for a reconfiguration? Or it's just a simple plug'n play process? :dunno:

I had to do a little soldering. What fun.. All the DSP displays on the nav screen works fine. the sub works a lot of bass.. I'm going to have to learn how to live with the echo.. I'm still learning this DSP thing.. 0

So, to upgrade the system. I need get a DSP amp? Where's the stock amp located in the car?

It appears that I need to pick up the Ibus wire from the CD changer. Does this lose any functions on the CD Changer? And there's no need to connect up the telephone wires?

Where the article said on speaker pins. It's mentioning about the pins on the amp, right? And does anyone know how the soldering process goes? Is it possible not to do soldering, and buy a pin converter or other methods?

The article mentions everything on amp wiring. So, the process of connection up to subwoofer, is just plug'n play? The most important thing in this DIY, is on how to install the amp?

Sorry about all these queries. But, as I'm not a good-brained person when comes to problem solving. And it's kind of hard for me to understand all these pins mean.

The amp is located down below where the CD changer is located. And yes, you must replace the non-DSP amp with the DSP amp to get this working - that's the brains behind the whole system.

Personally I think you are better off upgrading your existing speakers and adding a bigger powered sub rather then messing with converting your non-DSP system to a DSP system.

But just another qs that came in mind. Wouldn't upgrade the speakers, adding a bigger sub and locate myself a new AMP, make the buttons on the steering wheel useless? Or is it possible to get it working by getting a Alpine Amp installed?

You can upgrade the speakers and add a sub without impacting the steering wheel controls. Replacing the factory amp on the other hand will make things a bit more complicated.
