Radio antenna connection, the small one second from the left in your picture of the back of the radio.

Praz 08-31-2007 08:21 AM

i thought the black one to the left most was the radio connection? cause the connection that came off the black one is what i hooked up to my antenna adapter to fit the radio plug on my new heaunit.

RichardP1 08-31-2007 08:22 AM

Yes, there are two for some reason!

Praz 08-31-2007 08:29 AM

oh thats good then cause i dont have to worry about it. also this same small metal connection is on the 6 disc cd changer in the trunk. in this one, it connects the cd changer to the dsp unit or amp or whatever is back there. is this for power or something?

I believe this is called the DSP HiFi single coax digital audio cable. Depending on your vehicle it may or may not be used. See post #7 http://www.xoutpost.com/bsws-mobile-e...al+audio+cable Also remember to check the main page for information on sorts of subjects. http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/s...er-bmw-x5.html

thanks man

Has nothing to do with DSP, this is part of a dual diversity antenna. DSP is handled within the factory amp.

Are you upgrading or replacing the radio?

Praz 09-04-2007 03:00 AM

im (trying to) replacing the headunit with a pioneer model but nothing else.

If you were driving an E39 I'd say it was the power and sub connection to your subwoofer as well as a digital coax. Since you're in an X5 I'll say I don't know on the big black one, but I'm sticking with digital coax on the little round one.

The Digital DSP portion is in relation to the amp - not the radio. The picture is part of a dual diversity antenna system.

I agree that the DSP is handled in the amp, but the CD Changer is connected to it via a coax cable, so I thought this might be related.

In any case, I missed the "pass through" portion of the connection, so I stand corrected :)

mind if I jump in?

I have a 2000 x5 it had dsp cassette and changer, yanked out the changer, and head unit, had to run all new wires from the head unit back to the factory amp to tap into wires back there. bought an adapter from bmw- usa style antenna. cd, ipod work great, but reception completely sucks!, tore the whole back half of my 5 apart today, found the antenna and its little set up. any ideas how to remedy the recption?

Since the original harness was modified - it will be difficult to diagnose without seeing the vehicle beforehand. I would recommend bringing the X5 to an experienced installed for troubleshooting.
