Problems with Video Module from EAS

I purchased a video module and bumblebee camera from European Auto Source.

I had the unit professionaly installed in my 2005 X5 and all worked well until we started the engine.

As soon s the engine started, the image which was relatively clear (with a few lines going up and down the screen), went green with wavy lines. The camera image could no longer be seen behind the lines but I could vaguely make out the Navigation menu.

I contacted the vendor European Auto Source, left a couple of messages but they never returned my call. I sent an email message but the only response was "What are you using for power? Can you move the power leads to see if this fixes the issue?"

I responded that the installer had tried several power leads, all with the same results.

I have not heard anything more from them and my emails about returning the unit have not been replied to.

Has anyone else had this problem (either with the unit or the supplier)?

EAS and it's owner, Tom G., are some of the most reputable and helpful you will find in the industry. I'm sure there is a good explanation, and help will be forthcoming, I have no doubt.

I am sure what the installer did was to share the power for the relay with the power for the camera. This is a common mistake that is easily addressed. Do not use the same power to power the camera as you use to power the relay.

I'll give it a try.

Thanks!

likely the relay issue is the problem - feel free to pass our contact info along to your installer if they should have any further questions.

Could you please explain "likely the relay issue is the problem"?

There were two relays that came with the module that the installer did not use since the instructions did not seem to indicate to dop so. Where and how should they have been used?

We did try contacting you a couple of times. There was no answer on both numbers and I left a message (a week ago) that was never returned.

I have no VMs concerning this type of install - feel free to contact me directly by phone or email. A relay must be used on the camera power lead for activation - otherwise, the same behavior you are describing will likely be present.

Here's a quick schematic of the relay wiring:

The problem was finally resolved.

It seems that even the power from the back-up light wasn't "clean enough".
The installer had to use two separate relays.

One to feed power from the battery to the camera and another to feed clean power to the video module.

Everything is working fine now.

Great - thanks for following up! Glad you are happy with your new setup.

Works great.

Thanks for speaking to the installer.
