Swapping radio module to get aux-in
 

Hello,

In some previous threads I read that it is possible to swap the radio module from a 2002 model to 2003> to get aux-in stereo. (such as "Ncx" did).
Is this possible for the DSP systems too, and exactly which module should I use (partno.?)

Yes, it's a plug-n-play swap of the radio module, and if you have nav then the radio module part is the same whether you have DSP or not.

For those with non-nav, I believe what you need to swap is the dash CD (or cassette) module unit, as this contains the radio module. Again, should be the same part whether you have DSP or not.

So now I only need to know which partsno.s have the aux-in possibility. Or is that visible on the radio unit??
Also, which cable is the best to use for the aux-in connection? (radiounit to car interior)

this brings up a question for me, I have swapped the radio module from an 05 into my 02 with nav, if I wanted to tap into the aux, my guess is there wouldn't be the wire harness in behind the screen up front - correct? I think there is another, more desirable way to hook into the aux at the back I just haven't figured that out yet (for running dvd stereo).

you would plug directly into the back/rear of the radio unit, and run the cable to where you need it.

This is what I purchased from Crevier: 65-12-6-964-398. Get the OEM aux cable: 82-11-0-149-391


You are correct, there is no connector behind the screen up front in you '02. You will simply connect the aux cable by attaching the 3 aux wire pins into the radio module itself. You remove the connector from the Aux cable and pull out the three wires to expose the three terminated pins.

hey NCX how much did u pay for your tuner module, they told me it was 4 hundred something then another 2 hundred something for the sirius kit. 700 bucks is a bit too much cash for me ust to integrate the sat radio considering i can put it in the ashtray for a ton less. maybe i got the wring things quoted though

The cheapest new radio modules I know of are from Crevier or Pacific BMW, $420ish. Every once in a while you will find one on ebay used. There is a 2005 radio module ebay right now in fact. It is already up to $400 for a used one. I am not sure the cheapest place to buy the Sirius kit but I would check those two places first.

Depending on how you are about sound quality, you can go with a good RF modulator for Siruis and skip buying the radio module. I wouldn't do it personally since you are doing a real disservice to that digital sat signal coming in, but it is an option to consider. If you hated it you could always buy a module later or catch a used one on ebay. :dunno:

In that case I might be able to swap mine with the radio module of a colleague of mine (he does not need aux)
