DICE Silverline iPod Playlist order

Okay, someone else who has a DICE Silverline installed, please let me know how your DICE Silverline handles your Playlist order.

I go to one of my custom playlist and the order of the songs are arranged alphabetically by their albumn....It doesn't follow the custom order arrangement of my custom playlist.

on my ipod i have songs, artists and playlists...i did not put the songs by each artist into their respective albums. albums do not exist on my ipod.

my dice plays accesses the artists within each playlist alphabetically and plays the songs under each artist in the order they were downloaded by itunes.

Playlist Order

After playing around with itunes and the dice setting, I found out that the DICE Silverline plays the playlist in alphabetical order based on album names. Then if no album names are available or if your playlist is an album itself it will play it according to the track # of each song. Then, if there are no track# set, it will play the playlist in alphabetical order based on artist name.

PLAY ORDER OF PLAYLIST:
1. Album name
2. track #
3. Artist name
4. and so on........

So i think there is no fix to this SH*T. (unless u mess up ur itunes library)

But nevertheless its still a good IPOD interface coz u could still browse playlist, artist, album thru the radio....

use the random feature of the head unit to shuffle within each playlist.

Actually, DICE needs to update the firmware to fix this bug! Otherwise, I agree that the DICE SILVERLINE browses the Playlist, Songs, etc. much quicker than the original DICE.

Halston Pitman 02-01-2008 07:04 PM

Let me shoot this information over to DICE and see if they are planning an update or are aware of the issue.

Thanks for the heads up - we've been in contact with DICE's engineers since the issue was brought up during the install of Kewl X5's SILVERLINE module.

DICE is already aware of the situation and seeing what the possible cause/fix is.

930LDR 02-02-2008 02:03 PM

You know I realized this same issue after installing my new silverline last night (and having already sent my original unit back to BSW!). Frankly I find it unbelievable that something this simple wasn't discovered during testing. I discovered this problem within the first 2 minutes of using the device.

Other than this issue the silverline works well but this is pretty disappointing to say the least.

930LDR 02-02-2008 03:50 PM

Additionally my new silverline stops the ipod when it reaches the end of a playlist rather than cycling back to the beginning. 'Stopped' appears on the screen and it just sits there.

:iagree: very annoying.

This is normal operation as the iPod is pausing when reaching the end of the Playlist, not the DICE.

930LDR 02-04-2008 03:49 PM

Doesn't seem to be normal operating order anyother time that I use my ipod. I could be wrong as I haven't specifically tried this but if memory serves it simply cycles right back to the first song in the playlist. It isn't a momentary thing but rather it just stops and sits there.

It would if repeat settings were sent to ALL. The DICE may handle it differently - we'll do some testing to verify on the bench.

930LDR 02-04-2008 03:56 PM

Bingo... just tried it. I have mine set to Repeat All. DICE doesn't seem to recognize this setting.

Thanks

Thanks

Seems you're asking the same question on 2 separate threads.

I'll forward the issue to DICE's technicians and see if they are looking to change this.

it does repeat, once I setup my repeat setting as "ALL", but only works while engine is running.
if I turn off engine and start again, I need to setup the repeat setting again.

This would be the case with the RND feature - it is can canceled out when turning off the vehicle or switching to a different mode.

what is RND feature?
so there is no way to keep setting as "Repeat All" option?

RND = Random. This will shuffle the Artist/Playlist or Album (depending on browsing mode you are in). If this is changed, you must press the RND key again to enable the feature.

Did you ever get any resolution to the playlist order issue with the silverline?

Yes, there is a firmware fix for this as of last week. If purchased from us, please email me your full name and a short description of your problem so we can get you updated.

930LDR 05-19-2008 03:17 PM

Tom - Thanks for following thru on this. Unfortunately I purchased mine from BSW. Hopefully they have access to the same remedies.

jpnut 06-26-2008 10:39 AM

So I am looking to purchase this today or tomorrow Dice Silverline, will the unit have the "latest" firmware? Thanks Tom!

All DICE kits are shipped with the latest firmware available at that time. ;)

jpnut 06-26-2008 01:30 PM

Thanks for the quick response, with purchase how long am I entitled to firmware updates?

If there is an issue with your DICE kit that requires a firmware update - it will be provided at no cost (minus shipping).

jpnut 06-26-2008 05:39 PM

Its ordered! Can't wait, thanks for the tips!!!

Kewl X5 07-08-2008 02:40 AM

Since I was the one who pointed out the "flaw" on the DICE Silverline re: Playlist order, can I get my DICE Silverline fixed? (I know the answer already since I got mine from EAS!!) :D

I'll be setting up an appointment with you soon to get it fixed....;)

The DICE product devlopment needs much more attention because being tied to a playlist is a joke. Dice claims that you can't control click-wheel on new Ipods and it's Apples fault. Original DICE works ok (when it's our only option) and on 60gb Ipod click wheel is fine. On 160 gb click wheel is locked. Can't use in car because playlists handcuffing sucks. DICE says Apple locks clickwheel now on all 3rd party products, yet EVERY 3rd pary product I plugged 160gb into did not lock the wheel. How about some better or more investment in a little R&D?

Instead of immediately blaming DICE, it might be a good idea to be a bit more informed on licensing terms from Apple which state on the newer iPods, the Clickwheel must be locked on "integration" type devices.

The DICE kit is not a clock radio, let's not compare it to one.

jpnut 07-12-2008 06:37 PM

1 week going, and I love the DICE, great product!

Acezoned 07-15-2008 06:17 PM

I'm not blaming DICE but it's a bit strange that EVERY store (and I've made this a mission) I've taken the Ipod to and tried the demo products does not lock up click wheel, and none of them were clock radios.

What you have and are selling is an inferior device that you got the market cornered on and we have no other choices....for now.
I'll ignore the Apple licensing crack.
