Hooking into Power for a 2003 X5??
 

I'll first apologize if this is redudant, but I couldn't find my answer through search.

My question: If I have a 3 wire power that I need to plug into a power source, where do I do this so that is is "fused"? Picutures woudl be great also. I'm fairly technically inclined, but don't want to fry my radio or dvd system by hooking it up wrong.

Why do I ask...I have purchased a used Audiovox DVD Headrest system. I had to purchase the power unit and fm modulator from audiovox, but I now have them. Through this forum (thanks!) I figured out how to get the radio out and get to the antenna (only to learn that the fm modulator is a US antenna and I need the European/US converter). Anwyay, I just want to hook up the power for now, but I'm not sure where to connect to power. Thanks.

You can either hook it up behind the radio or at the amplifier in the back left panel of the trunk.

+ from the battery : On at all times (Red/Green)
+ from Ignition : On with ACC and IGN (Violet/White)

Its always good to run a fuse inline to your device. 10A or 15A should be ok.

Thanks for the reply. I found so may "options" on these forums, I had trouble getting confident about one.

I ended up finding the unused plug behind the glove box. I think it must have been for a flashlight recharger from what I read on X5World, but it was capped and not visible to the glovebox. Upon remove of the glove box, I pulled the plug out to find that it wasn't being used. I tested it, and it was the Switched power and a Ground. I tapped my 12V+ into the switched and my ground into the ground. Right next to that is a 2wire run to the light on the glovebox. One of those is red/yellow. I tested and it was always on, so I tapped into that, and it worked perfect. Just having to go behind the glovebox made it easy. I read that this flashlighted line is already fused, but I suspect I'll blow it at some point and can increase the fuse size if needed then, but for now, everything is working fine.

where is the battery located,

I am working on my 02 X5 and trying to fogure out how to get behind the glove box. took out all the phillips heads but no movey?? Any clues?
