subs rattling everything

I just purchased my '01 X5 4.4 w/DSP and was not satisfied with the stock stereo so I decided to upgrade a little.
A put an Alpine 700w amp and two 12" Alpine Type S subwoofers in a custom box in the back. Since then, about two days, my X has been rattling like crazy. Has anyone else had these problems? Any ideas on how to fix it? I like to listen to my music pretty loud and I just want it to sound clean when the bass hits. Thanks for the help.

Well, a couple of options....first, one 12 is more than enough for the X5. Beyond that, sound deadening (dynamat or similar). You could always turn the volume down. :D

Too late for the first one. I'm thinking it might be the spoiler that is rattling. Any ideas on that one??

You can try some dynamat in the spoiler or something. It is held on pretty tight though. There's a link on the main page that shows how to remove the spoiler cover to install an XM antenna.
That might not work so well though as there is an antenna in the spoiler and adding anything like that may affect radio reception, etc....

Given what you're saying, you really need to find a cheap tone generator and hook it up to your amp and move the dial around and see what parts buzz.

If it's only one note that's causing it, the box might be ringing at that note, and you could probably fix that a few ways (change the box? Put a couple of bricks in it? Damp the heck out of the inside? Polyfill? One woofer?)

2 12" Sub + 700 watts - DynaMat all passenger doors - applying non drying caulk/foam on all door panels and license plates = a rattling mess

Living in Cali I see about one of these a day.
