Mountlake Terrace, WA AudioControl, the award winning designer and manufacturer of performance autosound signal processors, announces the release of their new OEM interface, the LC8 eight channel line output converter with internal summing capabilities. This high performance OEM line output converter accepts the speaker level outputs from factory installed source units or amplifiers (up to eight channels) and converts them to a high quality pre-amp signal. The pre-amp signal can then be used to drive a superior after-market audio system.

Many newer vehicles use a proprietary bus or digital transmission protocol to transmit audio signals, explains Tom Walker of AudioControl. This type of communication makes it rather challenging to intercept the signal between the source unit and the amplifier. The LC8, with its ability to accept up to 400 watts per channel, goes after the factory amplifiers and outputs a high quality pre-amp signal. With LC8, installers dont have to deal with the ever-changing protocols of factory systems. In addition, it sounds great!

The LC8 has eight high impedance inputs which will accept two, four, six or eight amplified speaker level signals (up to 400 watts!) In addition the LC8 has an internal summing circuit that allows the user to combine together selected channels making the LC8 ideal for newer vehicles that have factory-installed amplifiers with built-in electronic crossovers.

More and more vehicles have factory speaker systems that are actively crossed over and would normally require multiple line output converters and lots of adapter cables, explains Chris Kane of AudioControl. The LC8 makes it possible to interface with these types of vehicles by accepting amplified high frequency, midrange, and low/subwoofer signals. It then mixes the signals together internally and outputs a high quality, full range, two channel pre-amp signal.

Other installation friendly features include a unique signal sensing turn-on and a 12-volt output for turning on aftermarket amplifiers. Most factory-installed systems do not have a separate 12-volt trigger to turn-on external processors and amplifiers. The LC8 actually monitors the signal at its speaker level inputs and when it senses an audio signal, it automatically powers up the LC8. Once powered up, the LC8 in-turn provides a 12-volt output that can be used to turn on after market amplifiers and processors.

The LC8 is also equipped with a connection jack for an optional subwoofer level control. This subwoofer dash control allows the user to increase or decrease the sub signal level. The LC8 can be installed behind the dashboard or in some other inconspicuous location, while the optional dash control can be placed where the customer can easily access it.

The LC8 from AudioControl has a U.S. selling price of $199 and is shipping in September 2005. The optional subwoofer level control is available for $39.99.

Wow that is a great price. Can't wait to read a real-world review of an actual install with this component. What a time saver. I would like to know what it does to the summing logic in order to get a somewhat-linear output. If it does what it says, without introducing noise, I would be really interested in this.

how does the extra 2 channels changes things because previously we spoke about the lc6 and you did not see how I could get it to work unless i used two of them .. so now with this 8 channel how would the set up be?

Well, for one, I was asking you how you would use the 6 channels.

It looks like you could grab the 6 front channels and a pair of sub channels and get full range.

The reason the price is so low is because there's no EQ function. SInce AC already makews EQs they want you to buy one of theirs.

I don't think the output would be close to linear without an EQ.

The JL Audio cleansweep provides eq function and the quality is a lot better plus you can plug in your ipod

3) Most people on this forum seem to use an Icelink to get on-screen info and control... so that's not very helpful.

Plug in your iPod as an AUX connection, The same can be done with the $35 AUX kit from BMW. This is not to be confused with the BMW iPod or ice>Link Plus kit which are completely different.

With the Cleensweep there is still no control of the iPod,no charging or ID3 text since this is an AUX (audio only) feed.

I know a while ago we spoke about the audio control eqs and you recommended the phoenix gold ti comp eq..

can you tell me the advantages if any of going with the phoenix gold over the audio control EQS or DQS

the reason i being more partial to the the audio control is that it has six channels which would allow me to use the inputs from the two lc6's

how many inputs does the phoenix gold have?
