audio input

Today I decide to play a bit with the audio coming out of the back of the CD Changer.
As some of us know you can`t get audio in with the AUX In on radio module 2002 or lower, my cd changer does not use the coax cable on the back, it uses 3 cable for the audio signal( low level signal ) .

I managed to input signal from my Ipod to the radio using the plug that plugs on the back of the cd changer….

Later I will have some pictures and more info as far as what each wire is for and how I found out.

Basically what you're doing is inserting analog audio onto the output of the changer.

1) Do you have any noises (engine running or not)?

2) Do you hear the iPod over the CD playing?

3) A plug-and-play version of this is the Soundgate DockBMWv2. It switches an aux source in place of the changer. I tried one in a 2005 X5 and it was noisy and unacceptable to me (for sound quality). I expect you'd probably have some noises too?

1- did not get any noise ( engine was off) i`ll be testing a few more things and i`ll try it with the engine running.

2- i disconnected the plug from the changer so i only heard the IPOD

3.i didn`t know about the soundgate plug-and-play unit, i will look into it.

2002 X5,NAV,DSP...

FYI, Blitzsafe also makes a CD Changer/Aux input adaptor

Does that one allow the OEM changer to remain AND provide and input? I haven't used it but I was wondering...

I don't think so. See http://www.logjamelectronics.com/blitzbmwauxv1.html

I haven't used it either. I opted instead to install a radio module from a 2003 in order to get AUX input.

tested the sound with engine running and got the same results  no noise

in a few days i`ll be ordering an I-bus interface to install my Carputer in the X5..

i`ll try to keep the changer working since i don`t want the wife messing with the carputer when she uses the X :D
