Dice Silverline - Strange Issues
Tom,
Thanks again for the quick shipping on my Dice Silverline. I installed it in my 2001 X5 today, and ran across some issues I haven't seen before in other posts. After connecting the battery back up, I took it for a spin and everything worked great. After I shut it off for 20 minutes (key out) the display wouldn't show up in the dash. I tried disconnecting the battery several times, but it seemed like I could only get it to work on the radio. After futzing around for several hours, I found if I pressed disc 6 and clicked the up arrow on the stearing wheel several times it would dispay core 1.4.00, when I selected disc 1 at this point everything worked.. Was this normal? Also, while going through several other modes on disc 6 it would show ? and *, but if I pressed disc 6 they would show up normal... Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks JD |
Okay, after some additional troubleshooting the problem appears to happen when I shut the car off with the ipod playing. When I turn the car back on the ipod doesn't work through the stereo until I unplug everything. So far if i switch to FM, shut the radio off and then shut the car off everything works fine - I hope..
Has anyone else experienced these problems? |
Tom,
I have read through most of the posts on X5world as well as e46fanatics and have seen similar issues on some of the older BMW's and Dice units. To help troubleshoot the problem I have summarized the following: Vehicle: 2001 X5 with a production date of 10/2000 without Nav or DSP Ipod: Third Generation Nano (4 Gig) with firmware 1.1.3 Ipod: First Generation Nano (1 Gig) with firmware 1.3.1 (tested the wifes) Dice: Dice Silverline that was purchased from EAS last week (all switches up) Installation: 1. Uplug battery 2. Routed cables 3. Connected dice 4. Connected battery Everything worked great until I shut the car off and removed the key. After that the display wouldn't work any more until I reset the battery reset as inidicated in some of your other posts. I have noticed that everytime I shut the car off without switching to FM and shutting the radio off that I display will go out, and I will need to reset from the battery. Is this normal behavior? is there anyway to control this from happening by setting the dip switches in a different position? The wife drives my x5 on a regular basis, and she is horrible about turning things off. Thanks JD |
I, too, have had strange results from the DICE Silverline
1) it works as advertised (extremely rare occurance, less than the fingers on one hand) 2) start the iPod, then plug it in, and I can listen to what I've preselected (this works only occasionally) 3) select the iPod, but it plays music I have no control over, even music that is nolonger on the iPod (this is the typical result if I get any music at all AND it's the SAME music each time) 4) nothing plays (vast majority of the time) This is NOT good! |

New steering wheel to be installed (ie, battery disconnect), maybe that will "fix" the DICE, otherwise it's back to BSW in October - subwoofer power lead pushed back in, so I now have bass - can't tell if there is a screw to tighten
base vs bass, the sound vs bass, the fish - how can anyone learn this polyglot language of so many other languages??? And I'm born'n'raised here! My condolences and awe for those of you who have learned American. I won't insult our English relatives by calling what we speak "across the pond" as English. |
