Dice Noise
Some time ago I installed a DICE Silverline in my 2004 X5. I have had a relatively faint, but definitely audible, high pitched whine that varies with engine speed (Sounds like a dentist's drill). I installed the EAS noise filter - no luck.
I finally broke down & took it to a local car stereo specialist. They tried several things including a GFI and installing the noise filter closer to the unit - no luck. They wonder if it could be the Dice unit itself. Before I ask for an exchange, does anyone have any thoughts? Thanks. |

Trunk - non DSP - with factory Sirius.

I have had some success with having customers move the unit itself and mount it to a different surface in the vehicle.
If that doesn't work, another possible fix that usually helps as well is regrounding the DICE unit itself. The 3-pin cable coming out of the DICE module has one brown wire which is the ground. You can actually cut that wire and reroute it to a body ground or even to the negative battery terminal itself. You're kind of taking a chance on this though because once you modify the unit your warranty will generally be voided, if you even purchased your DICE from a vendor that offers a warranty. Keep in mind that if you do try re-grounding the DICE, leave some space on both sides of your cut in the ground wire so that you have the option to splice it back together if you so choose. Feel free to email me if you have any further trouble. [email protected] |

I was just getting ready to ask this same question. I put a DICE in my wife's 2004 X5 with DSP and the engine noise is so bad I wont even listen to the Ipod when I drive it. It also makes a light clicking noise (some songs are worse than others. I'd love to know if the re-grounding really works. I'm pretty close to getting an OEM adaptor or putting the changer back in.

Does it have a coax connection or a 6pin plug?

Otherwise, it's best to get the Digital DSP setup in case its needed. If not, the DSP portion can be returned for a refund. |
