Which IPod Upgrade

I am new to this, but I want to setup my IPod. Currently I am using the FM thing thru the cigarette lighter and it's a terrible sound. Which is better DICE or Dension for the IPod upgrade?

UCrewX5 09-29-2008 03:36 PM

The Dension IceLink is no longer available. Dice is a good unit with very good sound quality and integration to the vehicle.

DICE is the successor to the Dension kits in the US. This is the kit you need:

DICE - SILVERLINE iPod Integration Kit for X5 00-06 (Trunk Interface)
http://www.europeanautosource.com/pr...oducts_id=1631

The DICE iPod Kit will integrate perfectly with your BMW and offer steering wheel control as well as ID3 text and charging of your iPod. Full CD Quality can be expected after installation. There's even an integrated AUX port for other devices.

New features of DICE SILVERLINE iPod Integration kit include:

- Direct integrated connection, without the need for FM transmitters or cassette adapters
- Full Text Display on your factory radio or Navigation screen
- Full control of your iPod via the radio buttons while in play
- Browse by Individual Song
- Browse by Individual Playlist
- Browse by Individual Albums
- Source Selector w/ Integrated AUX input
- Album Selection
- Full charging mode for iPods through included dock connector

The kit will come with everything needed w/ the docking cable. The iPod can be safely stored away in the glove compartment for 100% stealth installation and accessed completely from the steering wheel controls. The DICE comes with a 15-foot cable length to reach anywhere in the vehicle you like.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Another, more expensive, but higher quality experience if you have Nav, is the Intravee.

Gobbleoff 09-29-2008 10:13 PM

another vote for intravee :thumbs

gpruitt 09-29-2008 10:17 PM

intravee

I do have nav. Can you give me more info on the intravee?

petertn 12-15-2008 12:30 PM

I have MK4 nav with DSP. Just curious if nayone knows anything about the OEM ipod interface. It is cheaper than Intravee...

Gobbleoff 12-15-2008 09:13 PM

the OEM one, if im not mistaken, means you have to make playlists called "BMW1" to "BMW5" (or 6?), and from what i heard from a friend who tried it, the intravee was a million times better

Just a forewarning if you choose to go with the Dice prepare to have the thing drop the connection constantly. I am to the point that mine will play maybe one song before it shows "Detached".

This is not true and your comment is very misleading.

If you would like technical support on your DICE kit - please feel free to call or email me directly.

Instead of spending $200 or more, I have decided just to do the AUX plug. I get to keep my CD changer and my IPod will be easy accessible when I get out of my vehicle. I use my IPod often. The AUX connection is $40 and is pretty simple to hookup. I will just have to control everything with my IPod. Heard the sound was great also. ONE QUESTION????? How can I mount it in the armrest or cup holder area without removing the whole center console. I really do not want to mount it in the glove compartment. Or do you have any other mounting areas?

Bill Valley 12-18-2008 01:32 PM

Tom,
Are you saying that my DICE unit does not constantly detach from my system? That's funny....I didn't realize you had been driving my car.

I have had this unit for over a year. I have followed the instructions from my previous post here. It still drops the connection constantly. I have rebooted, installed the latest firmware, etc.. It still does it.

No, I'm saying your experience does not speak for all kits out there.

Again, if you need technical assitance, contact myself or DICE directly.

Sarcasm aside, there has been no response from your post back in March. We can't read minds - if you need assistance, you need to ask.

DICE can be contacted at 888.342.3999, or you can call me directly.

Well I just purchased the AUX plug and going to install it here shortly. All of the other things seems too complicated. Well there seems to be issue with them. AUX plug is pretty simple and I do not have a problem with using the IPod to navigate it. THX for your input.

Installed the AUX plug yesterday. EZ... It took me less than an hour to do the complete thing. I put it in the armrest. Yes, the wire was long enough to barely make it there. The sound is great!

I have an 03 X5 3.0I. I love the AUX. If I am not listening to sports radio.... I have my IPod playing. Crystal clear. I do not know why it took me so long to add this AUX plug. It is cheap and simple. My IPod can lay on my leg for ez access.

bullsbmwx5 02-15-2011 06:03 PM

whats the best option now. I had a dice unit before and it was not a nice experience. The ipod is not detected always unless i pull the plug from the unit and reconnect

what do u recommend now - is dension a better choice?
