does dice silverline work w/ new nano chromatic?

I've got an '06 X5 4.4.

Just received a new dice silverline and nano chromatic iPod running software v: 1.0.2.

Set it up as directed (twice) including disconnecting the battery (what a pain in the ass) etc.

The dice, or something, just isn't working correctly. It will play iPod playlists but I can't control them. No playlist text. Sometimes, upon starting my truck the iPod will play, other times it's dead. If I disconnect the "specific vehicle harness" and then re-plug it in music will come back on but....again...no control over it, no text.

This sucks. Pulling the tie out of an X5 to get to the battery is no fun and don't want to do it a third time.

Any direction / advice?

The DICE will work with the new iPods, with the exception of charging. A new cable will be released in about a month for older kits.

Can you confirm the positions of the DIP switches on the DICE module for me?

Thanks Tom, the dip switches (both sets of them) are all "up" or off, as delivered default. Tried it w/ the iPod configuration switches "down" or "on" but that made matters worse so I returned them to "up" or "off", which returns me back to where I currently am.

Might this be a defective unit and any kind of test I could try to see? The dice was purchased from EAS, which was great to deal with.

If you've changed any of the positions of the switches, this requires a battery reset. Make sure the iPod is not plugged in as the battery will keep the module powered up.

Yes, if you have switched or changed or flipped the switches make sure you have reset. You do not want to flip them 'on the fly'.

Going to give this one more try. As I understand from postings, this is what I'm going to do. (note the red text is my addition to the posted procedure):

1. Remove both battery cables, negative first.
2. Remove iPod from DICE iPod kit. Dice unit should remain connected during this battery reset procedure?
3. Touch both battery cables together (away from battery terminals) for 5 seconds.
4. Leave battery cables removed for 5-7 minutes.
5. Reconnect battery cables, negative last.
6. Reboot iPod (extra step) by pressing on CENTER and MENU buttons together for +5 seconds.
7. Connect iPod to DICE kit after reboot process is completed. This will give me text on my nav screen as well as control of my iPod.

Does this all seem correct?

One additional question: Since the current cable being shipped w/ the dice does not enable iPod charging, when the new cable is available, and I purchase it, can I just swap out cables or will I need to go through this whole battery disconnect/reconnect/initialization process again?

Thanks for your help.

Leave the DICE connected (with iPod disconnected) during the cycling of the power. You will need to program text as soon as the battery cables are reattached.

Tom

Thanks for your help.

Unfortunately 3rd time was not the charm.

Hooked everything up as directed, programed the text putting the changer button to 6, track 2.

Got 1 song (the first one) showing up on my dash display but my nav just showed "Track 2" on the upper left, "*dice*" on the upper right of the screen. Went to change playlists and it skipped off to a song in the middle of my iPod and never got any further text from my dash display, the nav screen stayed the same as before, and couldn't change the song that was playing after that.

I think I'm done and may wait until the new cable comes out that allows charging for the chromatic nano and try again later unless you have further advice. I'm no longer inclined to pull the tire out a fourth time and fool w/ the battery cables.

I could have sworn that I read somewhere, maybe the Dice website, that dice was compatible w/ all iPods. Maybe I was wrong.

The DICE is compatible - we've tested.

Will yo ube in the Santa Ana area anytime soon? I can take a look at the system for you if you'd like.

Thanks for your offer of personal help. When I return from a trip next week I may take you up on it.

One last try here:

1. During re-initialization, after re-connecting the battery cables, and w/ the dice still connected should I then turn the truck on, go to CD Disk 6 > Track 2 prior to connecting the iPod? Then after that is programmed in turn everything off, connect the iPod and then power the truck back up.

Thanks for your patience. I don't know why this seems so difficult for me.
