Intravee???? IPod Upgrade???

(Intravee) I was told this was great if you have Nav. I have an 03 3.0i with Nav w/o DSP. I want to add some type of IPod playing device. What do you recommend and cost?

Gobbleoff 10-02-2008 06:54 AM

intravee for sure. easiest to install... unplug ur changer, plug in the intravee, plug in the alpine unit, connect the ipod to that, and ur done

Intravee is amazing, if you have NAV. Very easy install.

BruinMan 10-07-2008 12:35 AM

Easy to install and problem free.

Get one.

So you all recommend the intravie over Dice Silverline? I have 2003 MK4 with DSP

jknj 12-14-2008 10:25 PM

Yes, the Intravee is the best if you have Nav. If not, its pretty pricey.

petertn 12-15-2008 12:39 AM

do you mind if i ask what makes the intravie so much better than the silverline? i was leaning on the dice but after researching on this board, it seems like many users complain about engine noise

petertn 12-15-2008 12:53 AM

ok so if i take the intravee route, I need the intravee for $250 and then I would also need the Alpine KCA-420i ipod adapter?

jknj 12-15-2008 01:00 AM

The Intravee gives you full access to every song on your Ipod, within the limits of the Alpine Ipod controller, which you must get in addition to the Intravee. You can scroll through all artists and songs, as well as your playlists. The Dice does not give you full access, from what I understand. Its limted to playlists. In addition, the Intravee displays all the data at once on the screen, including artist, album and song name. The Dice gives you a single line display. The Intravee can add XM or HD, although the XM is still a work in progress. It can also control 2 Ipod controllers and two analog Aux Ins, but this requires additional Alpine equipment. If you go to the Intravee web site (intravention.co.uk), you can read all about it. In a nutshell, it gives you more data and more control, provided you have Nav. Its also better without Nav, but the single line display makes the delta cost hard to justify, but it is still a better experience, just not order of magnitude better without Nav. I have also heard of a few issues with the Dice in terms of reliability, but I have no proof, just what I read here. The Intravee is also user upgradeable. I don't know about the Dice. Intravee has great support, thanks to RichardP, who you will see all over this forum. He knows A LOT about BMW systems. The Dice team is also on this forum as well. Oh, one other thing: The Intravee can control an Alpine CD changer, which is good if you care. Frankly, its no loss not having the CD changer. A 30 Gig Ipod holds way more stuff, and its a lot easier to deal with.

I hope that helps!

jknj 12-15-2008 08:07 AM

Correct. The alpineis usually found on Ebay for $70 - $80 USD

I just check www.BMWUSA.com and the OEM ipod interface adapter retails for $185.00. DOes anyone have any firsthand experience with this? It's slightly more than DICE but muchg less than Intravee and it's OEM.

It's rubish. No text display and limited to selecting from 5 named playlists called BMW1 BMW2 etc. accessed from the CD number keys, the 6th give all songs on the iPod.

petertn 12-15-2008 01:57 PM

Really? So do the playlists or the 6th key play in sequential order or randomly? No ability to search for tracks? That is rubbish.

RichardP1 12-15-2008 02:19 PM

Not sure about random mode. How would you search for something with no text display! The iPod UI is locked too, so you can't use that.

Tom G. 12-15-2008 02:28 PM

Plus no support for the current iPod/3G iPhone which use USB charging.

petertn 12-15-2008 02:29 PM

That answers the question. Intravee it is. Thanks.

petertn 12-15-2008 02:33 PM

Tom,

Have you seen much improvement in the engine noise issues people have mentioned about the DICE?

Essam Khafagi 12-15-2008 03:18 PM

Intravee all the way! (but it is more expensive than DICE)

I have just installed it in my X5 two days ago, moving from DICE... and their support is amazing, Richard is a great guy.

I am using the DICE in my other car (E46) with a single line Business CD. DICE is doing great there. Tom is also a great guy, thanks Tom for your support.
