Ice Link Hiss

Has anyone notice a slight hiss when using the Radio Shack D/A converter with the Ice Link? What is the best volume setting for the Ice Link (in the dension menu)? And are there any other settings I should tweak?

Thanks

I don't know this from personal experience, but I have read that the commonly-selected level of preamp output was 1.5V on BMWs.

Is it safe to assume the Radio Shack D/A converter was not designed for the car on a 12VDC system and that could be the culprit? Should I add a noise suppressor? My ground is only 6 inches long. Any help would be great.

Thanks

No and no.

Noise supressors usually don't help with hiss. Wait - make that never. Grounds either. You're applying fixes for engine/alternator noise to a noise floor issue - different beasts.

Is the volume level of the iPod when you switch to it similar to the level of the tuner and CD?

You might want to post your question here for Tom: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=94915

Gain setting should be default @ 2v, some hiss is normal - but is not usually audible when music is playing.

I guess I should have said buzz. This sounds like alternator noise in my sound system. If I turn on the AC it becomes louder.

I guess I should have said buzz. This sounds like alternator noise in my sound system. If I turn on the AC it becomes louder. If I disconnect the left and right input from the D/A converter the sound goes away(with the car running). Also, the sound is not there if I do not start the car. (Sounds perfect with car off)

Please help.

Where was the kit originally purchased?

downtownva 09-21-2005 11:33 AM

Best Buy.

el_duderino 09-21-2005 11:35 AM

Does the intensity vary with RPM?

(Sorry, Tom - should've known you'd be here).

Essentially, this is a 2-minute fix.

Hi Tom, I'm having the same issue. I'll email you and see what we can do from there. It is mostly a buzzing sound, but sometimes (rarely) I do get the high pitched sound that gets higher (not louder) as the rpm's go up.

Thanks,
-Jeff
