No Sound from Ice Link Plus
 

Hi:

I installed the Ice Link Plus into my 04 X5. The Ipod recognized the Dension set up and I have the titles on my MID. BUT, I have no sound at all.

The X5 has no Nav, does have DSP. Can anyone tell me what is wrong and how to correct it?

So far it really sounds like you have two things going on.

1) Did you get the DSP kit from Dension?

2) Did you read any of the other threads about this problem in other cars? : )

Where was the kit purchased? Usually MY2003+ X5 models have analog DSP, eliminating the need for the DSP adapter - but a few trickle over that have the true digital connection.

Did your X5 have a CD Changer before the ice>Link Plus was installed? If yes, I will need to know if you have one of the 2 connection varations:

3-pin and 6-pin connection: Analog or Analog DSP connection, no DSP adapter required

3-pin and coaxial cable: "True" DSP, the DSP converter will be needed.

You can also check your factory amplifer to see if a coaxial cable is present next to the 2 wiring bundles for verification.

I had the same problem and Tom G helped me figure out that I needed a DSP converter even though I had a 3 and 6 pin connector. See my post.

Hi:

I have both the 3 pin and the six pin connectors. The unit was purchased at Best Buy a few months ago and was used in my 2003 525i until last week.

I installed it into my 2004 X5 this morning using the 3 pin and the 6 pin connectors. I remember when I installed the unit into the 525i, I had a hissing sound and somehow, Tom, you responded to me and e-mailed me directions on switching the location of a black wire. But, I think that wire was part of the car's wiring and not the IceLink. If it was the IceLink, then that may be the problem.

I cannot find any coaxial cable in that location at all. I dug around back there and under there and found nothing.

I want to thank you for your help with this. I really love the Ice Link and want to get it working!

I see no evidence that there was a cd changer installed in the car previously.

The wire should have been relocated on the ice>Link wiring harness - shouldn't matter at this point though, just keep that in mind is you ever remove the ice>Link and install a CD Changer.

The 6-pin connector will sometimes be present, but it is feed from the AUX and used for either AUX (with the correct kit that is offered from BMW, a resistor is needed for switching) or Sirius. This can be extremely confusing if the vehicle was purchased used, since the previous owner could have removed the CD Changer and sold it seperately. Stock CD Changers still command a hefty proce for some odd reason.

If you are getting full control of the iPod and no sound, I am 99% sure you need the DSP adapter. The control is handled through the 3-pin adapter, the audio signal is from the 6-pin adapter or coaxial cable.

If your 5-series is equipped with DSP, then you will definitely need this DSP adapter. Very few e39s had analog DSP, I can't recall the last one I've worked with - if at all.

I do offer the DSP adapters, they are in stock and ready to ship if needed.

I definitely have it connected to the 6 pin and the 3 pin. On the MID it scrolls that I have the Ice Link Plus and then it says *AUX* with the asterix' just as I typed it.

I do have full control of the iPod right now. But I do not see a coaxial cable at all. With the DSP adapter do I connect that to the 6 pin wire? If so, and you feel that that will work, let me know how to get the DSP adapter.

AUX appearing on the screen can be one of two things. You could be pressing on the 1-6 buttons for more than +3 seconds. If the iPod is not in Dension UI mode and you are getting this message, there is a communication error between the iPod and ice>Link Plus (ILP).

Try verifying that the dock connector is firmly seated first - if not, try resetting the iPod by pressing the MENU and Center buttons on the iPod.

If everything is in working condition and there is still no sound, you more than likely have Digital DSP and require the additional adapter to integrate properly. The DSP kit will come with the DSP module and cables (coaxial included) to connect the amplifer to the DSP module and to lastly - the ice>Link Plus wiring harness.

Everything seems to be tightly connected. Still no sound. The car is MY2004 though.

Will the DSP kit have to connect to a coaxial cable? That is my only hesitation right now because I do not see a coaxial cable anywhere around there.
