CD Changer cable missing?

Do all x5's come prewired with the CD changer cable located in the cargo area rear boot? I opened the boot but was not able to locate the CD changer cables. (I have an mk4 nav)
:dunno:

Early production X5's with DSP have a coax cable rather than a regular 6-pin connector cable. Do you have DSP?

petertn 01-02-2009 01:43 AM

i do have dsp but i dont believe i see the coax back there either. My x5 is an 2003 4.4.

i thought it was only 00-02 with coax?

We've seen as late as MY05 with Digital DSP. If the vehicle was purchased used, likely the changer was removed beforehand.

back to your original question, I am very certain that all US spec X5's came pre-wired for a CD changer.

But shouldn't it be visible once i open the boot? Or is it usually tucked away behind the liner?

UCrewX5 01-03-2009 10:40 PM

I've seen them tucked up behind the liner (to the front of the compartment where the CD changer goes. Keep looking, they have to be there.

I think i found it!?!?

i think i found it! it was not wrapped in foam backed cloth rather it looks to be shrink wrapped in rubber. It was the only cable not attached to anything. could this be it??? i was not able to locate the other cable. i think there should be two right?

UCrewX5 01-04-2009 11:48 AM

yes, there are two cables. One is a 3 pin connector and the other is a 6 pin connector (unless you have the coax cable, which replaces the 6 pin connector)

mitsos587 01-08-2009 08:49 AM

can you take a better photo?my car doesn't have dsp.i have found the 3pin connector but i can't find the 6pin connector

petertn 01-08-2009 03:22 PM

turns out the pic above is not the right cable. i was finally able to locate both wires when i lifted the cargo floor that access the spare. the wires should be near the dsp amp...in fact, my 6 pin & 3 pin cable were ties together so i would think yours would be the same. unless you have a coaxial like UCrewX5 mentioned above. what year is your car?

Hey.... a somewhat related question:
My X did not have a CD player either and I am getting ready to get one. What is the plug in the picture for? The 3 and 6 pin is for the Changer, but I can't figure out the long one:dunno:

Thank you very much! I guess I'll leave it hanging for now.

All North American BMW X5s are pre-wired for the CD changer. Depending on whether you have DSP or Non-DSP you may have 3pin and 6pin or 3pin and coaxial.

If you have DSP and find the 3pin and can't find the coaxial and have no CD changer then you probably won't have the coaxial installed. You can buy the cable from BMW or when you buy a DSP Adapter it will come with a new cable.

Let me know if you guys have any other questions. Here are some install guides you can browse to find the connections:

Hi there,
Got a question, I have a 2004 4.4 with no cd changer and no navi, do I need to re-program my radio if I plug in a OEM changer?

amir911 09-27-2012 08:01 AM

hi all

kostasbmw 10-24-2012 05:56 AM

i want to buy the wiring for the cd changer for my x3 2005.

are there places to look (shops) maybe second hand??

upallnight 12-16-2012 10:56 PM

Be careful, the three pins connector may be for the phone hookup and will not work with the CD changer and you might end up ruining the cd changer if you use the phone 3 pins cable.
