Intravee II/spec dock install

I am loving the Intravee II/spec dock combination for my iPhone 3G. It works very well and the audio quality is excellent.

Here is the link to my install pics and write up on my blog.

Part 1 overview

Part 2 install pics and notes

Excellent job. I also formatted your write-ups into an article here on X5world - http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/s...k-install.html

Excellent job ... I have done the same but without the dock :)
I am putting the Intravee and the Alpine KCA-420i exactly like you did

This is an awesome write up. Thanks so much! One question.... I too am looking to do this install for my iphone. It I get the spec dock does that charge the iphone or do I still need to purchase the additional converter you mentioned.

Thanks.

If you want to charge the iPhone 3G then you need the converter. I believe the first generation iPhone should not require that additional component.

Yes I have the 3G and do want to charge it, so I will add the converter to the purchase list.

Thanks!

Sorry, another question. I run a program on my ipone called Pandora Radio http://www.pandora.com/ This is a really cool streaming music app that runs through the iphone (you should check it out, it's FREE).

This app. customizes itself to my music preferences based on the feedback I enter when songs are playing, which means I will want access to the iphone. Trying to hit a button when it's in the spec dock will be too difficult. So I'm thinking of just running a cable from the armrest box and setting the iphone on the top of the tamber door over the cup holders. Thats usually where I put the phone now and it works great. The rubber protector keeps it from sliding around, plus I have a full view of the screen.

So my question is..... instead of ordering the spec dock, could I just order a 2' cable (along with the 6' cable) to plug into the charge converter (instead of the spec dock)? I know this is not the most intergrated way, but I think this will offer the most flexability.

Thanks

That should work. But rather than having a 2' extension added to the 6' extension, why not have them make you a custom 8' extension (that's an option on the CableJive web site)?

If I go with the single 8' cable then the charge converter will need to plug into the bottom of the iphone and I'm not sure if I want to see that big block when the phone is sitting out. I guess that will just come down to my personal preference.

Thanks
