Just added Sub and amp to premium sound system
This afternoon I just finished adding a 10" subwoofer powered by a 300W sub amp to my X5 premium sounds system. It took me 2 1/2hours all together but I did my homework before and knew exactly what I wanted to do before starting this work. I am very pleased with the result as it provides the “oumph” which the premium system was lacking. The sub does not take too much space in the cargo area and can be removed in 15sec. The amp was added on top of the CD changer as you can see in the pics below. The sub and amp were sold together at Pep Boy’z for $120 only!.
For the sub bass audio signal from I used pins 7 (sub -) and 14 (sub +) from the 15pins premium Audio Connector and connect them to the high level inputs of the amp. I used ‘crimp and snap’ connectors to make the connections. |

Well, congrats! If it sounds good to you that is great. What freq are you crossing over the sub at? Or did you just tune it by ear? I assume it is x-over'd fairly low to keep it from being muddier than it already is.

It looks like you did a good job and are happy with your results. Congrats! I simply don't want to have something sitting in the cargo area. I am waiting for one of our AV pro's to come up with a more "stock-looking but not stock-sounding" solution.

that little rack where your dvd and cd are has space under it and that's where the amp goes as stock. you may need to get the bigger rack but when I remove that panel on mine I have the full rack with the entire fender as a well for amap etc...i just can't get my old/bad amp out!

Do you have a pic of your rack? |
unfourtunately I don't have a digital camera so I can't send pic, I may go by my office today and borrow one. yes I am replacing the factory amp with another one from an E38 that I bought because mine failed.
