but I think the dvd ouput is connected to the video adapter that you will
need to purchase. Tv-on-nav sells a video adapter that allows you to view

3 known 'main line' ways to hook up video (more exist, however) in the US:

1) Nav TV

-OEM reprogrammed Tv/Video tuner that requires a cable and install near the radio unit; does not provide audio in via stereo (this may have changed); requires installer (I believe navtv.com does not sell direct anymore), and is now $$$$ as the price of OEM TV tuners has skyrocketed. cable is a bunch of shorter cables plugged together.

2) Tv on Nav

--requires OEM TV tuner. has a black box that plugs in between the tuner and the NAV system (also requires cable, though their cable is thinner and more insulated against noise); allows you a mono OR stereo input source to video (requires AUX in stereo adapter for stereo in). Works great, just like one, but slightly more flexible. $$$$ if you don't have the OEM tuner, otherwise $200 for the adapter to play video while car in motion and select AUX in stereo source

3) Tv on Nav's Video Input System

--does not require high priced OEM TV tuner module. plugs and plays.

I actually have the original NavTV module, and the TV on Nav module inline to allow stereo input via AUX adapter. I also have a Kenwood Sirius and Keg for MP3 through the Aux In adapter. My kenwood Sirius selector allows for an AUX in stereo source which I hooked up to the DVD stereo output.. its a built in switching system.... It rocks!

so Option 3 work directly up to the nav screen... no switch what so ever??? just plug and play? and this will get me TV and able me to plug up a DVD player?

hey guys I'm on this bandwagon again. Just missed an auction for an alpine DHA-S680 because they didn't accept out of country bids. But it got me to thinking - should I really be buying something that is discontinued and I might have trouble getting it serviced if there are problems?? I've had a look around for the Kenwood C810 but it's also hard to find. Not really sure what to do... buy a used model that is discontinued or buy something brand new and have give up on the Alpine. I don't think any stores would have a new alpine anymore as it's been discontinued for a few years now.... thoughts?

If it's from a reputable brand (Alpine/Kenwood), getting it serviced should not be an issue.

I exclude the Sony 10-disc DVD changer as I mentioned above.

yes its plug and play.

does not give you TV broadcast reception, but gives you two composite (RCA) video input sources.
