speaker problem
Yesterday while driving home I lost all bass from the speakers in my x5. There was no pop or any other sort of noise right after they stopped working, the bass just stopped all together and all you can hear is the music and vocals with no bass. Could it be a fuse or something that went? I am not familiar at all with car audio systems so any help would be appreciated to help me find out whats wrong. Thanks in advance guys.

Which sound system do you have? hifi, DSP?

well its a 2002 x5 3.0 with the standard stereo sound system and GPS navigation system if that helps diagnose my problem at all. It appears to me as if the lower door speakers are not functioning? or if they are at all they are working very very low.

If some speakers just stopped working odds are the output channel(s) of the amp went out for the respective speakers. In some cases it isn't the amp, but it usually is. And that's what I would suspect as it went out all at once with no popping or static beforehand. Now whether the front door woofers/loudspeakers are run off the amp or radio is another question... and unfortunately I can't look it up from home as the wiring schematics won't load up on mac/firefox. But if it is the amp it is in the left rear storage area, the radio is in the rear lower compartment next to the battery. (with navigation only) Unfortunately these are expensive items to replace and they should be encoded to the vehicle by the dealer after replacement. Note that the amp/radio will work before encoding though.
