stereo troubles
ok guys i'm hoping someone here can lead me in the right direction this might be long so thanks for your patience.
this refers to MY '02 4.4 with DSP and NAV system. when i picked it up about 4months ago a few of the speakers were not working properly and the sound kept on cutting in and out gave a feeling of a deaf sound almost it didnt feel full :wtf: . so i took it to the $tealer they looked at it changed out speakers which were blown from a few days prior when they began crackling. picked the car up speakers seemed to work :) yet the cutting in and out still persisted :( . took it back to the shop had them look at it this time they swapped out the radio unit since they found a tsb which stated that if radio cuts in and out change the unit. so got the car and again for few days it worked fine at this point im confused  . later on i found a leak in the trunk which coincided with my speakers crackling again. so took it back to the shop they took care of the leak and changed the amp which they claim and at this point i figured was the only thing left to swap out but due to the water it was actually damaged so new amp. still now i have no leak new amp new radio supposedly new speakers and the stereo still cuts in and out its more noticeable with the DSP on so im thinking maybe its DSP? is there anyone here who has any idea because i have no clue :dunno: and at this point im um a bit  to say the least |
The DSP is actually all in the amp.
Is it possible that the damaged amp (it sounded like a damaged amp to me as I read your post) damaged the new speakers before it was replaced? Or the tuner? |
thats what im thinking because the very last time it rained all of my speakers started to crackle and pop as when you plug speakers into the wrong port on the computer and it was happening even with the stereo off so yes definitely what im thinking as well but why would it work fine at first and then stop thats the problem. but i will definitely take the car back in and request they change everything possible with regards to the stereo system i just wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions ideas cuz its quite irritating as you can imagine.

I think this is the perfect opportunity to upgrade the whole amp-and-speaker setup so the stereo is as good as the car... it's only $4k or so.

probably a bad battery.
Even if your car will start a low battery will cause items operating on the I/K bus to shut down. The I bus will shut things down if too many errors. Your issue sound like a battery issue. Battery is under the spare tire. Look at the magic eye. green = good black = bad Martin |
Happened on my daughter's 323. The sound kept cutting out. It turned out that the amp connector contacts were corroded. I unplugged the connector, sprayed some contact cleaner, plugged it back and have not had any problem since.

Yes there is a factory amp for non DSP system too. Like for DSP system the non DSP amp is normally located in the trunk on the left side under or near the CD changer. An easy way to know if you have DSP or not is to check if you have a sub woofer (with 2 x 6" sub speakers) on the right side of your trunk. You need to open the right cover to see the subwoofer. If there is no Sub then you have the non DSP.

Had to bump this post to see if anyone knows the TSB referenced by the original poster? I'm going to the dealer on Friday and want to have some facts.

When i start the car for a drive my sounds goes away after 1-2 min. No radio sound, no cd sound and no gps sound. But sometimes after 10-30 min when i press the on switch it work again until i stopp the car. When i shall drive again it´s the same problem. Edit: I have a x5 2001 3.0. |
i also have the same problem. no sound (non-dsp) 2001 x5 4.4
Anyone get to the bottom of this problem yet . A cure ???? |
Been dealing with the problem since I bought my 05 X5 in Jan 09. Dealer is perplexed - changed out radio and antenna and still having a problem...I need help as well!!

stereo problems resolved
All of my stereo problems (slow changing stations, random cutting out, loud squelching sounds) were resolved when the dealer finally applied a software update for the radio problems. It took me about 6 different visits to get a tech that would actually listen to me and what I was describing and then realized there was a software update to fix the slow station changing issues (which also cleared up all my other problems).

Wow - finally someone with some helpful advice - I'll pass this along to my serv. advisor - he's usually pretty open to suggestions! thanks so much!!!

its not the tv/monitor head unit at fault. I bought another tv/monitor head unit same problem. Im pretty sure its the Amp itself thats causing the problems.
"Located at spare wheel area" First im Gona whip it out and have a look (eg clean connectors and pop it back. i will post my result. |
Bump! Also is there anyway to bypass the amp?
|
Any new Updates?
