Sirius Install - No Audio

I bought a used Sirius unit, part # 65 12 0 398 140 and installed it into my 2007 X3.

I followed the instructions and connected the harness behind the head unit. I turned it to Channel 184, but I get no audio.

I pulled the fuse on the receiver and it went into acquiring mode, acquired all the channels again, 1 thru 200+, but still no audio from it.

Sirius said everything looks fine from their end and I resent the signal again, but with no audio of course I would never know if it works. If I push the SAT button it will rotate through 1, 2, 3 and the INF button rotates through NO ARTIST, NO TITLE, SIRIUS.

All other functions (AUX, CD, Phone, Radio) have audio. Thoughts?

Apparently I need more patience. I came back in 30 minutes, started the truck, and there was the sound!

So it happened again. The Sirius dropped audio output a couple of days ago and won't work.

I tried another antenna from a mobile kit, but nothing. The head unit shows all the channels but no audio. Not even from channel 184.

I have pulled the fuse and the head unit reinitialized and saw that it was not longer there, but when I put the fuse back in it stays the same.

Every morning in my garage it would go to "ACQUIRING" and now it just sits there. This is frustrating. I think a dealer visit may be in order.

I think I might have had a similar issue but can't fully remember.

What type of antenna are you using? I had to use a ALC module between my antenna and the sirius receiver.

Again, not 100% sure but this sounds vaguely familiar...?

My X3 is factory prewired so it is using the OEM antenna in the shark fin. The other antenna plugged into the OEM module, but I wasn't sure if it would work.

I am going to take it to the dealer as they said it would all be covered under warranty. If they don't cover some of it I will get the XM module from EAS and connect it in the OEM location, possibly with the OEM antenna.

Lately it has been spotty and staying at acquiring for long periods of time. I did some more searching and have found that others have had similar problems. They found that the problem was resolved by replacing the existing antenna with a new antenna.

My Sirius is under warranty, but I have opted to purchase the micro antenna with BMW plug from EAS to prove that the antenna is the problem. My closest dealer (4hr rond tripd) says that they won't order any parts until they look at it, so this is easier.

I received the new antenna from EAS today. I plugged it in and stuck it to the roof with the cable out the passenger window, backed out of the garage and it started to work right away.

I then had to find a place to mount it. I removed the rear spoiler and found that it is all metal underneath it, but the antenna won't fit under the plastic.

Plan B. Mounted it on the dash near the passenger A-pillar like in my E90 and went for a drive. No issues with it in this location and the wipers didn't bother it like the E90. I installed the cable under the carpet all the way back to the rear and connected it up. Everything work a like a charm!

I hope this helps others.

PLAN C:

Mounting it on the dash like my 325i didn't work. It was very spotty and didn't work too well after a few days.

I moved it yesterday to the roof directly behind the the shark fin. I ran the wiring through the center rubber grommet in the rear door, then through the OEM cable routes in to the car. It is working perfectly now. Hopefully it will stay that way.

I believe that there are dip switches to assign the location on the Ai cable. Do you have them in the proper location?
