Polk DB6501 Install

Just wondering if anyone has installed a component set into their front doors.

I just purchased a set of Polk DB6501 and was wondering if it's just a plug and play or if it will fit similar to the BSW midbass. I'm hoping the 6.5" speakers will fit into the tube. Anyone have experience with that?

Just installed mine. Skipped the crossover completely and just tapped into the old midbass and tweeter wires. FYI.

Are the Polk's 2 Ohm? I had installed a set of Diamond Audio in my first X5, but blew one due to the mismatched load. I was looking at the Polks for the current X.

Did the Polks fit the tube with no modification?

Polks Midbass is 4 ohms, so the midbass actually loss some of it's power, how ever the tweets are 4ohms vs the oe 8ohms so they're a little bit louder. I wished the midbass was a little bit louder, and it is noticeable. If I had to do it over again, i would have gone with the Infinity 6030cs. If you want my polk set, i can sell them to you already pre wired, but they do fit right into the tube. I'd just take a plyer and move the bolt holes to a 90° so it doesn't scrape the tube.

There's really not that much information about drop in aftermarket set besides the thread you have. I'm kind of sad actually, was scared to install them myself (since it's my first time) but the T-Taps made the install very easy.

Install is not that bad if you have mids that fit. Polk, MB Quart, Infinity, and JL Audio. May be some others. I swapped out my tweeters and left the mids in my current setup. The tweeters make a big difference in sound quality. I am going to either keep the factory mids or swap them out for some 2 ohm Infinitys.

Does anyone know what type of crossovers (active or passive) are in the factory system? The frequency that a passive crossover operates at is dependent on the impedance of the driver it is connected to; in other words, if you put a 4 ohm speaker in a system that is designed for an 8 ohm speaker, the crossover point will change.
