Dumb question - what IS non-DSP speaker setup?
 
On a non-DSP X5, what is the actual speaker system setup? How many, where?

Is the front speaker set a 2-way or 3-way?

i was thinking that ur post might be
some sort of joke though. i always thought
of u to be our Car Audio guru.

i'll check w/ a buddy of mine and see if he knows.
he worked at a Car Audio place for many years.

On US specs models, there are 10 speakers in the standard stereo (speaker-wise, similar to the DSP setup - minus 2 subs). Up front, there's 2 woofer in the doors, 2 tweeters in the side mirrors, and 2 mids in the dash. Out back, there's 2 woofers and 2 tweeters in the doors.

Here are the two different wirings I have found on non DSP X5's, a 42 pins and a 12 pins. This refers to the output connector of the factory amp:

1) 42 pins connector (actually 2 connectors side by side, a grey one and a black one):

Grey ½ of connector:
Pin # 13 / Tweeter Rear Right door + * Yellow Pin # 21 / Tweeter Rear Right door - *Blue / yellow

I have the standard speaker system, it has a 2 way component set upfront, woofer in the door, mid/tweeter on the dash. In the rear door, I only have a woofer.

That's it:)

OK, so US gets front three-ways, but Euro gets two-ways only?

hans, do you have tweeters in the mirror "sails" at the top of the door?

It is my understanding (thanks to alpac) that the cross-overs are located in the amplifier. Is the cross-over on the input side to the amp? For the mid-bass speakers in the doors, is it only a low-pass filter? Now that I have a sub-woofer I would like to add a high-pass to eliminate some of the bass that the door speakers cannot handle very well. I'm thinking I could add a passive filter on the output of the amp. I believe that the speaker are about 6 ohms. If I use a 300-400 uf cap this should give me a 6db/octave highpass at about 75-100 Hz. Am I on the right track here?

We (obviously :) haven't gotten a non-DSP X5 into the store to do the same analysis that we did on the DSp X5.

As far as your xover goes, I don't think that will give you enough attenuation, and I think ryou'll need a steeper filter - but the coil across the terminals will probably feak out the OEM amp.

Just replace the darned thing...
