Apple iPhone integration

Hello All - Just took delivery on my first BMW, a 2011 X5 35d, which seems to be quite popular with all the rebates going around. I love it so far and signed up for a year on the "BMW Search" thing, which seems like it could come in handy.

I heard rumors that the iPhone offers advanced connectivity and some different features (as opposed to an Android phone or Blackberry) when paired with the iDrive system. However, I can't seem to find anything about it.

Does anyone know if the iPhone offers an advanced interface or further features when paired to iDrive? Or is it just the same as any other phone (or an iPod depending on which function you are talking about)?

Thanks

Provides album art when you connect to the car via the USB connection.

The new Office functions only work with some blackberrys

Don't think theres anything else. There's Bluetooth audio streaming but that works with any phone that supports Bluetooth A2DP and AVRCP

Their announcement was all marketing spin

Coming ... Don't know when but speculating April 2011, is iPod out to allow folks to use the true iPod interface on the idrive screen. You're be able to select genius playlists and things.

Also iPod video playback through the idrive screen will be supported.

It's not clear if any of the above will be offered for older 2011 cars, but knowing BMWs track record..... Highly doubtful.

Down the road, we'll see BMW Connected, offering Internet radio, potential integration with twitter, etc similar to what they have done with mini connected.

Btw, you're be better off posting these questions in the general e70 area rather than this specialist area

BMW was the first major auto maker to team with Apple on seamless integration between iPods and a car audio systems back in 2004...
