Need Help With Sirius
 

I need help getting my [COLOR=blue ! important][COLOR=blue ! important]Sirius [COLOR=blue ! important]radio[/COLOR][/COLOR][/COLOR] to work. I just found out I have a sirius receiver in my 525i touring. It must have been installed by the previous owner. I never knew it was there because the antenna had been removed and just tossed in the compartment where the nav computer is. I discovered the antenna and traced it to the sirius module. Of course I mounted the antenna on the roof and tried to tune in the satellite using the aux button on the radio (in my case, a wide screen monitor), but nothing happens. My [COLOR=blue ! important][COLOR=blue ! important]car[/COLOR][/COLOR] is a 2002 525 i touring with a build date of April 02. It has a factory nav with a Mk 3 computer. Becker BM53 radio unit. The Sirius part number is 84 11 0 153 365. The CD changer connections were connected to the sirius receiver and the antenna plugged into the appropriate connectors. This left one connector on the sirius module empty, but I saw no evidence of a loose cable that could have fitted that connector. There is no connection to the BM53 radio.
Am I doing something wrong, or is the module faulty?

You need a MKIV (DVD-based) nav computer to support the Sirius screen. If you push the MODE button, I believe that it will cycle through to Sirius, but the screen will not display any Sirius info.

Next, you need a BM53 radio manufactured 9/2003 (I think) or newer for Sirius compatibility.

Therefore, these are your actions...

1. Read the part number from your radio. Then check it against the BM53 part numbers in this list to ensure it is one of the radios with Sirius support.
2. Confirm that you have a MKIII nav computer. If you really do have a MKIII, you will need to upgrade to a MKIV.

According to that list, my radio does not support Sirius and I have a Mk 3 nav computer. I wonder why the previous owner installed it and just left it there while it was not working.

Who knows, but you scored a Sirius module in the transaction. The PO probably bought it not knowing all of the compatability requirements. If I were in your shoes, I would complete the upgrade. The MKIV is really nice, and the incremental cost of upgrding is not too steep.
