iPhone 5 AUX connection cable options
 

Hey guys - I have the AUX input in my 2006 X5. I have a cable that Tom from EAS helped me get that I plug into the bottom of the phone rather than the headphone jack and then connect to the AUX input in my ash tray.

My iPhone 5 arrives tomorrow :D:D I am going to need a new cable or adapter to connect the 5 to my Aux input. I prefer to connect through the dock rather than the head phone jack.

Has anyone sourced a cable or adapter that will work on your 5 and AUX?

If so, please share. If I find one I will update this post.

Update- Apple sells an adapter. One for 29$ and one for $39. Check the link below if you need an adapter.

The $29 model is just the adapter. The $39 model is cord + adapter. The $39 option might be a better choice for those who use a case as it is the same size as the charging cable. The $29 model plugs into the bottom of your phone and might have some fitment issues if you have a case. I will update again once I get my adapter and verify that it works for AUX input.

My wife has the same setup in her 535, so I'll be watching to see if this works.

I have a 2009 320d and have been using the 'Y Cable' on my iPhone.

I thought that simply buying an adapter would ensure that it works with my new iPhone 5. Wrong.

The current set up enables my phone to charge while the iPhone music library is visible on my analogue screen so I can scroll up and down through songs.

In short the only way around I currently have with my iPhone is to use an aux cable and manually choose the songs on the ipod and if I wish to charge the phone use the USB charger cable. Frustrating.

I tried my iPhone 5 with my 2008 with 6FL option (Y cable). I used the 30pin adapter from Apple.
1. it showed the tracks and played them just fine
2. it charged my iPhone 5
3. it did not appear to provide the stronger cell phone signal that I'm used to [I'm going to check that out this weekend]

Are you using the adapter with the cable or simply the one piece plastic adapter?

Sorry, my previous post was incorrect. I was combining comments about the snap-in adapter and the Y-cable.

I have tested the iPhone with the Y-cable connected to both the iPhone 5 adapter and the iPhone 5 adapter with cable. Both play music without problems and I see my playlists just fine. Both charge the iPhone 5.

What is the part number on your Y-cable? It shows in raised black numbers. Mine shows "0 440 706" which equates to part 61120440796. There are newer Y-cables (with higher part numbers) but if part number is lower (like 0 440 645) that could be a problem.

Regarding the snap-in adapter, which is not what you were asking about, the iPhone 5 charges on that too with the iPhone 5 cable adapter. That's the one where I'm not seeing the cell phone signal boost (yet).
