OEM Nav display to High MID for relocation

So I want to remove my oem nav system but retain obc function. Is it possible to replace tte nav display with a high mid to make relocation a little easier?

MK3 OEM Nav with DSP.

Thanks guys

those are differently wired options - the Nav monitor is wired to the back of the car for the Nav functions and for the radio, which is in the trunk, and the high/low MID is not wired to the trunk, as the radio and all computer functions are at the front.

so, once you remove the Nav, you need to do a MID retrofit, which is essentially downgrading the car and not upgrading... you will need to either abandon the Nav loom and do a complete MID harness install, or spend a considerable time studying the WDS diagrams in order to rewire the exsisting Nav loom into the MID set up...

no easy way - unless somebody already had spent time and effort for this particular setup and has a ready-made solution...

I have a PDF detailing the upgrading - going from MID to factory Nav... but you don't want that... :)

Good to know, maybe I'll just have to find a suitable place for the nav display to go. Wish there was an easier way haha

what are you placing in place of the fatory Nav?

Looking at an Avic Z150 or one of the new Kenwood units.

check the ones that plug into the Nav harness and make sure that you settle the DSP issue - since you have DSP, you need to make sure that the proposed upgrade will work with DSP... make sure you get a unit that you can return, and read up on the forum - people on this forum know by far more that any installer does...

Yea the plan is to bypass it and install an aftermarket 5 channel amp. I'm going through a local installer/audioshop that has quite a bit of experience with BMWs in general. iirc they haven't done much in way of retaining the OBC functions and being able to clear warnings, etc. But if I can get the info for them they can likely handle it. The labor cost is pretty good as well.

Edit: their pricing is pretty close to sonicelectronix, etc. Authorized Kenwood and Pioneer reseller, etc.

BMWs are not wired as general vehicles out there, since 1996 +/- they employed the iBus to assist in the in-car entertainment - while you can graft onto the car just about anything you want, you will lose the integration afforded by the factory units and units that are designed for this particular type of a vehicle...

Yea I'm aware of loosing certain features/functions. My primary concern is the OBC functions. Don't need to retain DSP or any of that. One of the primary reasons i'm going with this shop is they've been around 20+ years and have done extensive work with BMWs, E39/E38 in particular. iirc one of the owners has an E53 that he's done a lot of work on.

Other than obc, aux ventilation, and nav is there any other integration I'd be losing?

Btw I really appreciate the wealth of information you've given me thus far
