new sound system

hey guys, just wanted to ask for a little advice before my install date...first of all i am upgrading all the speakers and adding a JL audio 12w6v2 in the custom ProWedge in the back with the 500/1 JL amp for the sub and another amp running the speakers...where do you guys think i should mount the two subs, i want something clean but nice...wut do you guys think???
thanks in advance

There are some cheap fiberglass boxes on eBay. Fiberglass used to be very expensive but the price has gone down.

The W6V2 is a great sub and perfect for a 500/1.
A 10W7 would have even been better...

You can get a box like this and it would make it look nicer than the Prowedge boxes.

ooops

sorry, i meant a place to mount the amps....lol...the sub came in the prowedge JL box.....

Mount the amp on the back seat or get a bracket built and put it in the rear CD changer area.

What I think... hmm...

Well, I think that you should put Dynaudio MW160GT drivers in all four doors, MD100 tweeters in the dash and the rear doors, and you should jettison the ProWedge idea and go with a single woofer in place of the door in the right rear corner.

Build a sub into the pass rear corner (totally stealth can be done with a single 10" like the DLS Magnesium or an Alumapro, with a build out you can get an DLS Iridium 12") and hide DLS Reference or Zapco Digital Reference amps under the load floor.

Better advice comes with telling us your budget, existing HU, and stuff like that, but that's what I'd do... given a clean slate.

well i already got the equipment so thats out of the door, but i dont want to void anything if i put it against the seat, maybe mount it on the floor or in one of the side compartments, who knows....im gonna ask my installer on what he thinks

That is the worst suggestion I've heard in a long time. This isn't a frigging Honda Civic.

From where? If you have good success with it, I suspect several of us would want one, too.

My buddy's shop. They did the one for my M and we were at CES in Vegas this past week, talking about different things we're planning on doing. It will be a one piece fiberglass unit, it won't be $300 and that's what a lot of the e46 guys complained about. I don't know all the details other than it will go in the passenger side rear pocket out back and will be ready in a month or so I would guess.

I'd like to see a one-piece fiberglass box for this car that's below $300 with space for more than one 8".

Like i said, it won't be $300! The one for my M was $550, I would expect it to be in that neighborhood.

This works well with low profile amps. Use rounded allen head machine screws and nuts on top from underneath to secure the amps and make sure there is enough air circulation if they are running at low impedances.
