Possible proof the V27 with bird's eye view is coming...
1 Attachment(s)
Picture from an european E39 5-series with MK IV Nav screen showing "bird's eye view" on their nav screen.....:)
|
Does someone have the specifications of the MKIV navigation system? I'm curious to see how much potentiol there is to go. V26 brought us (I think) anti-aliased graphics and V27 (may..) bring us even more wicked graphics!

I like I like!
Is this available elsewhere in the world for X'ers? Cheers, |

Some guy spread this pic across the internet. It is a beta version of v27, which shows bird view graphics. This same guy claims now that the birdview option will be deleted from the final v27 option because our DVD players would not be capable of processing this heavier software.
So don't expect too much of it. Personally, I would never install a beta version on a 3000 usd nav system. |
I saw that when I installed those chrome gauge rings for him:)

That might very well be the case. The MKIV has a weak 108MHZ processor of what design I don't know. The speed of that processor will dictate if the NAV unit can reneder a 3D or bird's eye view with enough speed to make it usable. I could not find the processor specs on any of the Garmin or Magellan units. The Tom Tom Go units which all will do bird's eye and 3D have a 400MHZ ARM920T processor. Obviously a much faster processor than whats found in the MKIV. There is no doubt that bird's eye view is possible on a MKIV as the picture suggests but I bet the screen redraw rates are so slow that it might not be worth having. Does anyone know who this guy is with the Beta version? Maybe someone could ask him to describe the behavior of his MKIV while in the bird's eye view. Mark |
Thats hot...can't wait:)

The MkIV is actually made by VDO Siemens. They make the OEM version of the MkIV for BMW etc., and the aftermarket version for Audiovox and VDO Dayton. I talked to one of their technicians yesterday and he mentioned that the two units have the identical motherboard.
While the OEM unit is limited in functionality, the aftermarket systems rock. You can choose between 9 languages, 2D and 3D rendering, etc. They look identical from the outside as well. The newer nav systems (such as the new 5 series) have the bird's eye view. Gotta figure out a way to make it work for the X5! It is also possible to add an aftermarket unit and view it on your factory nav screen...(just like watching DVD or Reverse cam) ...maybe that's what this guy has done?? |
Any more news on this?

The time/date, tmc, compass, gps symbol all indicate that this is oem.
Kewl, where did you find this pic? |
It has been floating around the 'net....got it from Roadoops.com:rofl: from the E46 M3 forum (not E53 forum), but the E46 M3 Roadfly guys also got it from somewhere else....

Wooowwww this looks very great. I hope it is soon available:) :)

Defnitely a nice upgrade if it becomes available. Have driven a 530xi with NAV and definitely like the new perspective. Just hope that our NAV hardware can handle the new graphincs w/o sacrificing performance.

Birdview software
3 Attachment(s)
Hi There,
i send a message to the administrator about the 3D software. I asked him to test the software. I self tested it in my car with a MK4. It is a very nice view, and its working great. You al have to wait till the administrator will repley with the test results. I think, you will believe him better instead of me:) greets Appy |
How cool is that!! I can't wait for the v27, whatever it may be.

Chaplin is just saying, it is not a fake, but a test version of a so called 'X-map'. Besides still having some bugs it will never be released, because of slowing down the performance of the MKIV too much with the 3D display. That means V27 will definitely not get the birdsview. After long and intensive tests Siemens/VDO stopped that project. |
Hi,
i just got one question: Did you self drive with this software?? I just hope there will be a time that people wil appreciate that, what some people are doing for BMW drivers. But also here, this is a big issue. best regards Appy |
Patience, my friends. Appy has provided to me a copy of the software and I will be testing it out on my MkIV this evening. I'll post the results later tonight. ;)

Hey guys! Can you upload this version for testing in Russia? For exchange i can upload v26 version with russian speak voice in USA,GB or D language menu, or tell you how to change voice in navi software
|
awesome.. can't wait..
|
I've got birdseye view on my other BMW so could I download the software from that and then try and upload on to my X.???????
|
Not the same NAV system. I would not do it. If you have a BMW with I-Drive, then that software is not compatible with the E53 X5 Nav System.

So is this the "official" V27 or just a development/beta version?
|
It is called V26.09A and it is a beta version. See http://www.xoutpost.com/navigation-sy...tive-view.html
