Cracking/Changes the voices in the Nav

Hi,

Now that the nav system has been opened up. A few people have mention hacking the voices to replace with Homer/Raster etc.

I thought it may be an idea to start a new thread to explore this.

The Information I have found is:

I beleive they are a variation on the ADPCM format, rate 16000..well I can recognise the voice when played using this format.

I used WavePad to play the files however, there is some corruption (I assume due to embedded headers etc).

i find out, that the voice files are made with OKI VoicePro2 Software.
http://www.okisemi.com/english/ar204.htm

the sound chip in MK4 is build by OKI, called MSM6585.

but the software works only with Win95. i can not test it, because i dont own these old OS.

i hope the soundfiles can be edited with this software. is anybody able to try this on a Win95-system?

Where did you find that out? VoicePro2 installs and runs in WinXP when Win95 compatibility mode is active (in program's properties). I tested the software and looks like the files it makes are not similar to the .csf files. For adpcm (.vox) files there are better editors available, VoicePro does not even open the .csf files. For example Vox Studio opens (when file extension is changed to .vox) and playbacks the .csf files perfectly with just a little noise (because of header data) at the start. Vox Studio demo is available here: http://www.xentec.be/download/download.html
