Problems burning 2006.2 DvD
I know there is a thread for the DVD but there isnt any for how to get it working.
I downloaded the 2006.2 maps dvd (US) & by now I have lost count of the amount of DvDs I have wasted trying to get it to work. Heres what I have done:
Those of you who have it successfully working, PLEASE tell me what brand of DVD should I use, what speed & what software did you use. This is driving me crazy !!! Any help would be greatly appreciated. EDIT : Just FYI I have a 2003 330xi with the MKIV & 16:9 screen. |

Hey
HAve the same problem. Went through countless discs of different brands. They were all DVD+R. According to a poster on here, the DVD needs to be called NAV_DB. The version I downloaded (t*rrent site) calls the DVD "CD_5171". This might be incorrect OR it just might be for the newer E90 vehicles. In any case, I've dumped the DVD to my HD, and re-mastered it into an ISO with a title of NAV_DB. I will try it out in my car in a few days and let you know if it works... |

Hrm
I think then that maybe this disc is for the new iBus system. Have you compared the file/directory structure of your old NAV CD with this one that is downloaded? I'm thinking this because there are two separate and incompatible DVD systems for BMW since last year... |

Its the same torrent that everyone else claims they have got working. I dont think I want to waste money & buy any other brand of DVD when 3 of them failed, not to mention how many of each brand I wasted. |

i'm having the same problem as well. i have the same file and i extracted the iso using winimage. here are pics of the extracted files:
Attachment 8358 Attachment 8359 Attachment 8360 In each of the folders starting with "V" below, there is a DBAL.OUT file of different sizes. Attachment 8361 Attachment 8362 Attachment 8363 When I opened up the 2005.2 Nav DVD, there was only the DB and TPD files and some other files that this image doesn't have. Hopefully someone can figure out from the pics above how to make it work. Thanks. |
Hrmm I have a similar directory structure as you, except the files are in lower case. Maybe this has to do with the issue of burning it with ISO vs. Juliet etc..?
Also - what is the title of your 2005.2 disc? |

I am going to see if there is a firmware update for my DvD burner & try on some more brand DvDs, I just picked up 10 -Rs & +Rs from Fuji & see if they make any difference. Here we go again  |
Hrmm.. this is strange.. looks like there are different versions of the image floating around.. Can you send the link to the torrent you downloaded? Mine was from:
http://frankyflip.dns1.us:6969/stats...829977c7d573d7 filename is bmw20062.iso its a 4.3 gig ISO of the DVDROM. The title ends up being CD_5171 when you burn it, and my nav rejects it.. anyway, post your torrent link and i'll compare them.. hopefully they're different and we might have something here.. |

don't know if this has any relevance.....on the 2005.2 cd, it shows the file system as being CDFS (Compact Disc File System) whereas the file system of the burned copy is UDF (Universal Disk Format). could that be the problem, that the dvd player can only read CDFS and not UDF?

Ok I tried the Fuji brand DvD -R & +Rs , NONE OF THEM WORK :tsk:
I burnt them at the slowest speed possible, now let me try burning them at the fastest. Yyyaaayyy way to go to waste 2 more DvDs !! I might as well just buy the original. Who wants to pitch in & make a common purchase for the community  ? |
well i was able to get the nav system to recognize the disc, but there is no map info; it just shows the arrow with no roads. what you need to do is extract the files from the image using a program like WinImage. Then I used UltraISO to create a new image. Unfortunately the trial version doesn't allow you to create images aboe 300MB, but I was able to unlock the program by using one of the registration codes I found in Google Groups. the original image was created using the UDF file system, but UltraISO creates it using CDFS. Make sure to name the volume NAV_DB. now i just need to figure out where the map info needs to be on the disc.

My problem is that all the burnt DVDs just dont work properly in my system, I dont think there is any problem with my drive as the original just works flawlessly. |

Problems burning 2006.2.DVD
I have the same problem you have , see mine in another post.
It seems to me that everyone of us has its own experience good or bad in burning dvd be +r or -r. There is not any rules to follow, to reach a certain result , and we all loose time and money for this.At the end I thing it is better to buy the original one saving time and money. Then no one say if there are the same problems with Cd's but only with dvd and this is the reson I have postponed the os sw' update , having experienced bad results with trouble. Probably also the Dvd drive must be investigated. Has anyone some spec of this mk4?( I have it on e46) Appreciate your comments. Mario |
FOUND THE PROBLEM!! .. we're using the wrong image! BMW20062.ISO isn't for e46 or the older X5 systems. The one that will work is here:
http://torrentspy.com/download.asp?id=626299 This is the one that was hosted on m3forums.com. Its 3 rar files that extracts a MDF file. You can burn the MDF with Alcohol 120% (has a free trial) good luck! |
Thanks much guys. I found the problem, it was my Dvd burner that crapped out on me. Its not even an year old, guess you get what you pay for when you buy on black friday sale
Anyways heres the "working combination". I tried Technic's method of burning a DvD+R at 4x & it works fine. I havent bothered experimenting with any other combination as I dont want to ruin more DvDs. The only difference between what Technic posted & what I did was that I used a Fuji DvD. Good luck to all with the same issues as me. |

nav cd 2006 downlaod
does anybody know where i can download nav cd 2006 disk #1

So, I got the NA 2006-2 from torrentspy, and I used ultraiso to burn the image (single iso file) at 4x speed on a sony dvdr- ....i also renamed the dvd to "NAV_DB"...the drive accepts the dvd, but it's wierd..like, i have the software, but no gps stuff, like no voice, no maps, no destinations or POI, but i can scroll through the menus and all....http://forum.e46fanatics.com/images/.../confused1.gif I am not sure what's going on. I didn't have to extract the iso image using winrar or winimage to my HD and then do something with the extracted files, eh? Cuz, ultraiso an ETOH 120 only allow burning imaging files (iso)
I intially used Alcohol 120 but I didn't know how to change the volume name on the dvd to say "NAV_DB"....and there is an option to "make image", but after playing with it, i presume that's if u have a dvd and u want to upload an image on to your HD?? Anyways, any suggestions, anyone else have similar problem. I opened the dvd and it seems to have extracted and I can see all the files, pretty similar to the 2002 version I have. So, in terms of technical, I think I burnt it correctly, but I don't know. What should I do? Try DVDR+? Burn at slower speed? Different brand? Technically, does it look like I did evrything correctly, in terms of the actual process, etc.? Thanks a lot. |

Can anyone tell me where I can download the latest Map Disks from? I've searched online and whatever links I've found in this post have lead to dead ends.
Would appreciate any help! |
