Upgrading Nav OS on MkIII

The wife's '02 X5 came with V18 installed. I was going to upgrade to V23, but I can't find a disk image - bmwnavigation.com is apparently down. I've got an image of V27.1 from http://www.megaupload.com/es/?d=9X481J1K - I never could get http://www.filefactory.com/?f39b3b to work.

Are there any downsides to using the V27.1 image on the MkIII? I've burned both a CD with V27.1 and another with the Key CD image. I'm ready to give it a try as long as it won't screw up the wife's ride...

Bump - anyone??

Any disk image higher than V22 will take the MkIII to the latest.

It Worked!!

Finally gathered up my courage last night and inserted the V27.1 CD that I had burned. No problems at all - took about six minutes. I haven't had a chance to check out any differences between V19 and V22 on the MkIII, but it's nice to know that it's as up-to-date as it's gonna' be without upgrading to a MkIV.

Also got the 2006.2 CDs in from NavTec($50 off deal). Much improved coverage where we live SW of Atlanta. Even has all the streets in my little(60 homes) subdivision - nice surprise.

What software did you use to burn the cd? And what brand CD did you use? I tried it last night and I think I fried my MKIII... The screen just stays blank now... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Dont load v27 on a MK3 drive

I loaded v27 on my MK3 and it never loaded.... and it never ran again! Had to scrap it and buy a new unit. (Upgraded to a MK4 - dvd drive) The version I used wiped out the cmos type firmware on my drive. Besides, v27 doesn't do much for you on the mk3's. Don't be like me, that mistake cost me $1000!

That sucks! I used Alcohol 120% and burned a generic blank at 4X(slow as my drive would go). Maybe I just got lucky...:dunno:

I got it working again by reburning V22.1 on a Mitsui Gold CD-R. Used clone cd and burned at 1x. I just popped the CD-R in, waited like 2 mins. Pushed the right turning knob on the Navi, as if I were pretending the accept screen is there, and all of a sudden it came back to life and started loading the update. All is well now. Let me know if you have any questions.
