4:3 Retrofit cable needed
Guys,
Does anyone know where I can get an on board monitor retrofit cable for a 4:3 screen and radio/tv unit ? I have searched the net with no success !! This is the cable which does from the front of the x5 to the boot, connects the monitor with the radio/tv unit and to the rest of the electronic comontents. Really appreciate anyone's help on this. Thanks. |
Note that there isn't a specific harness for the 4:3, it's the same as the one for the 16:9. BMW has a retrofit nav harness - BMW wiring harness
61-12-6-910-148 X5 harness w/DSP. I've seen them on eBay and posted in the forum classifieds. Good luck and :xoutpost: |
Thanks, any idea on where to get one of these from other than ebay ?

Check with Crevier BMW parts.
Here was a recent eBay auction, for reference - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=170008017027 |
I have contacted my local BMW dealership and bought one from the parts department. cost £120.

Hi guys,
I started my retrofit this morning but it looks like cable I purchase from BMW 611 6 910 148 is the wrong cable. going through the retrofit instructions there are numerous inconsistancies. For example looking at the retrofit instructions http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/pdf/X5...r%2010%2F00%22 the cable is missing A3, A4, A5, A6 and the cable I have has other connectors which I have no idea what they are. I have attached a picture, Please someone help me out. Is this the correct cable, its a OEM part from BMW. http://www.tacademy.co.uk/retrofit_cable.jpg |
Can you post a picture of every plug on the harness
4 Attachment(s)
It seems to be a navigation / DSP harness, not the retrofit.
This is what I thought the retrofit harness looks like 15 feet long Harness laid N to S 17 radio plug 18 blue 18 while Aux cable larger plug, i don't know, maybe glovebox CDC??? 3 wires, LKM, CLSTR and ABS middle of the harness Arial amp plug Ground point south end of the harness 18 blue 18 bugdandy 16 BM53/54 radio BM53/54 antenna Can you post some picture of the harness like this??? |
I can't help you with your original question unfortunately, but I was wondering, this retrofit requires coding, how are you going to have it coded. My guess is that only the dealer can code it, that said perhaps you should have the dealer do the retrofit. Quite frankly this job looks incredibly difficult given the history of BMW installation instructions leaving out steps, not to mention the numerous changes that took place to the X5 during it's production run.
If you do manage to get it all done yourself, Wow! |

At a high level, you have the retrofit harness described pretty well. The only exception is that I think it has the same type of radio plugs (round pin) on both the dash area and the trunk area. That is one of the reasons that many people choose the X5 fully nav/DSP harness over the retrofit harness, because the X5 harness has the BM53/BM54 plugs in the trunk. Also, the full nav harness is considerably less expensive than the retrofit harness. Finally, I am not sure that the retrofit harness is even still available from BMW. Quote:
Go for it 740iL, and keep us posted. Even if you get a full nav harness and not the retrofit harness. That is perfectly OK, as that harness is what many people use. Essentially, you remove the speaker wiring from the new harness, and you only have to splice over like three wires at the DSP amp plug into the new harness. You will also have to run the reverse signal and wheel speed sensor wires into the new harness, but that is relatively easy as well. (Edited because I mis-read the dates between some of the posts.) |
