Help...is this normal
 

I have a 2000 4.4 with 4/3 navigation system.
I have a CD Nav from 2004 and find the Nav very slow to give you information. For instance, when the Nav tells you to go to right and you go to the left, it takes quite some time to re-direct you to another route. Another example is that the car position while moving in the map is correct, but when it reach the uper part of the screen and the Nav system puts the car is the center of the map, it take some time to do this procedure, and it sometime is says "please waite a moment"...enought time for you to loose yourself on the road.

Are this problems related with the software of the Navigation system, or this is related to the CD itself????
Last week I drove a 2006 Opel with a Navigation CD sytem, and it was a world of difference compared to my X5. Much quicker guiding you, everything´s works much quicker with that Nav system.

Do you think if I buy and 2006 CD it will work better, or is this slowly way of guiding you is related to the old 4/3 navition system?

The early 2000 X5's came with the MkII nav drive, which is very slow. If you upgrade to a MkIII or MkIV (dvd based), you will find the performance significantly improve.

How can I upgrade from MKII to MKIV? Do I need to buy all 16/9 navigation system, or is this only a question of software upgrade which any dealer can perform?

To upgrade to a MkIV you only need to purchase a MkIV nav drive. It's not a software update, it is a replacement of the drive unit that is located in the rear electronics bay (the unit you put the the nav disk into).

In order to do the upgrade you must remove the MkII and the GPS receiver (the GPS receiver is built into the MkIV) and connect the cables to the MkIV instead.

How much does it cost the MKIV unit? Do you have the part number for it?

Is the MKIV install a plug and play procedure, or do I need to desamble alot of parts in order to do it?
Final question, where is located the GPS MK II receiver?

Hi,

the GPS reciever is above the MK2 Unit.

You only have to replace the MK2 by an MK4 and you are ready.

I have MK4 Units and also 16:9 Units for the X5.

If you have the 4:3 Unit. than you will need those BMW partnumbers
65 90 0 140 347 1 steun boordmonitor wide-screen ( 5 euro )
65 90 0 140 348 1 steun boordmonitor wide-screen ( 5 euro )

How much are the units and the screen? Also, is this the same system that is in the 2005 X5? I am wondering if I should sh_tcan the Nav and spend some coin on the sound system. I like music and this Nav absolutely SUCKS.

The DVD MK4 16:9 Nav is much better!

change to the Mk4 DVD nav, it is much much better and you'll find the nav is really really really good afterwards
