navigation software update to x5
 

I have a 2002 x5 with 3-1/21 system software and i want to update it.Is possible to update to v27 or i have to update only to v22? Where can i find these downloads?

You can update with any distribution OS from V22 and up. The MKIII software on all those disks is identical.

When I insert cd with v 27 it gives me note that the software will be loaded! But after that nothing happens for a quarter and more!!! Should i push an appropriate button?

Look through this thread to find where you can download V28. If you download V28 use Alcohol 120% to burn to a CD. This will give you version 3-1/63 when you load it. Be patient. You will have a blank screen for up to 90 seconds when you insert the update CD - just listen to the SatNav computer "whirring" - & wait!

Yes I did this but I cannot hear the sat nav working! It is like freeze at this screen! But it gives me that note and when I push the right knob this note (that the software will be loaded) disappears! I also tried to install v 18 but it does the same thing! I dont know what to do! When I load the software I must be to the "Menu" section or not? The radio and the monitor should be off?I have a markIII SatNav with 3-1/21 system software.My version is 16.2. Can I go to v28 directly?

this is a problem, but can be solved.

Leave the software cd in the MK3/4 Unit. Be sure that the ignition is on.

Then you have to pul out the MK3/4 unit and unplug the Blue connector.
Put the Blue connector back and then the software update will go.

Just start your engine & allow your SatNav to boot up to the normal operating screen. Eject your Map CD, insert the new OS update CD then go & have a coffee, leaving the engine running...... See what you see when you return after 10 minutes. Patience is a magical thing! I used to work with Greeks & Italians so I know how impatient & emotional you can be;)

Don't start your engine - BMW recommend ignition position I. If the screen never gets past this point, then burn another CD-R as slowly as possible using high quality media.

No the image is a sample image that i found in this site! so the dates are not the same. But the note is similar and sais that Cd-rom in navigation computer and software will be loaded, but nothing happens! should i try unplug the blue wire and put it back while the software is running?

My guess is that the nav computer is having trouble reading the disk. Try burning a new CD using either ImgBurn (www.imgburn.com) and set the burn speed to 1x.

When you do the update, it does not matter where you are in the Menu (it can be on radio, OBC, nav, etc.), and it does not matter if the monitor is on or off. When I have done my updates, I usually have the monitor on and the GPS Navigation option selected. Make sure the key is set to Position 1, and do not do anything that would disturb the car during the update. Just turn the car on to key Position 1, eject the map disk, insert the OS disk, then wait. The screen will say it could take 6 minutes, but it usually takes less time than that. It does

If you are starting from OS version 3-1/21, you may also need a "Key CD" to do the update. You would definitely need the Key CD if you were starting from either version 3-1/30 or 3-1/31, so you would probably need it for an earlier version. I also recommend that you download and burn a Key CD image too, just in case. You can download it from www.domino.org/old/nav/v18-key.zip or www.e38.org/nav/v18-key.zip

Finally, you can go directly to the latest update CD, no matter where you are starting from. So, using V28 is no problem.

In what link can i find bmw navigation software v 17 or v17.1?

I do not think that I have every seen anything that early available for download anywhere. I know that a number of folks do have it, but I am not sure who. (Maybe the founder of X5World has it in archive.)

Since you have a MKIII, the last operating system version that was developed for your system is 3-1/63.

This OS version can be found in V22 of the upgrade disks. So there's no point in getting V28, as all the versions after V22 contain enhancements for MKIV systems only.

You can get a copy of the V22 software from http://www.e38.org/nav/

If you have OS version 3-1/31 your upgrade path is a 2 step process.

First of all you'll need to download V18-KEY.ZIP and upgrade your system using the OS and CD-KEY provided in that file.

Then you can download V22_1_CLONECD.RAR and use an application like WINRAR to extract the CCD file which you'll need to create to upgrade to V22 (OS 3-1/63)

You can go straight to any OS distribution CD that is V22 or higher. I recommend you pick any one of them and go with it.

The only reason you might want to update to V17.1 is to keep the Radio + OBC view. With V18 and newer, you get the split screen view, which is very nice, but you lose the Radio + OBC view.

That is not quite true for plntzas. He has a MKIII unit, with software that is earlier than 3-1/40. For any MKIII unit with software earlier than 3-1/40, a Key-CD is required to upgrade the system, so he needs to get the Key-CD first. Any upgrades post version 3-1/40 will not require this Key-CD.

So what plntzas needs to do is to first upgrade with the V18 disk , and then he can perform a 2nd upgrade using the V22 disk, which will give him operating system version 3-1/63, which is the last upgrade available for the MKIII.

I didn't miss the Radio + OnBoardComputer view - so I'm very happy with the newer look and feel of the split screen.

But everybody has their own preferences, naturally.

OK, I have never done a MKIII OS upgrade from such an early version. I was always under the impression that you could go from any version to any version, without having to go through an intermediate version.

The other thing that I do not know is whether every version prior to V17 also requires the Key CD, or is the Key CD something only associated with a V18 upgrade.

Here's a thought... plntzas is currently on OS 3-1/21, which was distributed on the V16.2 distribution CD. Can he just go directly to a V28 disk, as long as he has the key CD as well. I know that many people with 3-1/31 (V17.1 CD) upgraded directly to 3-1/63 (V28 CD) without loading the V18 disk first. They just needed the Key CD for that upgrade.

Every version prior to v17 requires the key CD. (Not relevant for MKIV's though, as these all shipped with a later version.)

Bare in mind that unlike the software update and the maps, the key CD has a copy-protection mechanism. In other words, this is the one exception where I *WOULD* advise the use of the Alcohol program to burn the disk.
