Traffic info NAV
 

I've seen some people in Europe have "tmc" or "tcm" on their NAV screen.
Are there some NAV's that are traffic aware?
Is that great feature coming to USA?

TMC works really fine, especially around Paris and on the highways.

It inform you of an accident or a traffic jam beetween 20 and 100km before being in it an automatically give you an alternative route.

Very usefull and unlimited free service based on traffic radio informations.

Although in principle a good idea, I find it flawed. The main problem I have is the time it takes for the information to be updated. I have found in the past that if I ignore the warning and don't take the alternative route, by the time I get to the congestion, it's long gone. Had I taken the other route, this would have greatly increased my travel time and distance.

I doubt that you will ever see a green TMC logo in the US. This function relies on the car receiving a European "Traffic Alert" signal from any radio station supporting "TP" (Traffic Programmes) tuned in on your car. Even if you are in Europe, if you have no pre-programmed radio station that supports TP, you will always see a RED TMC logo. Furthermore, the TMC function gives no warnings (even though it may be GREEN) unless you have activated a mapping route & are using it.:thumbup:
